David Perry

Hope is gets degree. Not everyone can play. Kid got hurt a lot. Let's hope Golden doesn't mistakenly bring him back as a Wavier wire late addition.

Weren't there issues from day 1 with this guy? Wasn't he the one who was lounging in Jamaica or something when he was supposed to be reporting on campus?

So this kid easily had over $250k of assets allocated to him during his time at the school and provided no tangible benefit to the team or the program. I don't begrudge the kid anything but those that want to blindly pay all of these kids too as they yell from soapboxes about Johnny Football raising $186.44 billion dollars for Texas A&M never mention the scores and scores of these type of situations.

This is why it is complicated topic that is mostly spoken from a bias perspective (i.e. nobody mentions the David Perrys of the world).

Miami is also a private school where the scholarship is worth $250k plus. Not all schools are.

As fans we also gripe that schools come down with the duffels to poach our recruits. But how else are they supposed to compete with Miami when they can get a scholie worth that right at home? They have to bring the duffels and offer incentives to lure them away.

What good is a pot of gold to a drowning man. I think he'd rather have the plastic life preserver. Most of these kids had troubling finishing high, but you think they can maximize the value of a college education while devotiong lots time to playing a semi-professional sport? Give me a break. Kids who don't play sports have a hard time making it through college. Pay them in currency that's of value to them, not the company scrip http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Company_scrip

Maybe Perry couldn't contribute because he was busy studying. But fans don't want to hear that, they just want to complain about weight room numbers.

Perry was not ACC caliber. Plain as day. Randy special along with numerous others

Sorry to hear that it never panned out for him. Best of luck to him in the future -- hope he gets his degree!!

i remember when he was recruited, looking at his film and saying "why the **** are we offering this kid". All he was was a big kid who was uncoordinated and couldn't tackle properly. That Randy sure had an eye for talent! LMFAO.

Kid was only signed to possibly build a pipeline to U High School. It's sad when a players greatest contribution to the team, is their departure!

Surprised he lasted this long!

Could have sworn David perry had offers from just about every big time school in the south east. Bama, fl, fsu, ten, s Carolina. But he was a project.

Agree on some of them not caring about education, but it's not that easy, very slippery slope . If you start paying players (making them employees), they would need to start paying taxes. That wouldn't just apply to their salary, but the value of the benefits they receive as well. So, that $250k education would be taxed as income along with meals and other perks they receive. That then leads to the argument of why am I paying taxes on an education that I don't really care about which, along with Title IX concerns, then leads to a separation of football teams from the university and the beginning of an NFL minor league and you're no longer supporting the University of Miami football team, but the Cleveland Browns' Miami affiliate. In addition, without the revenue from the football team, most college athletics would be shut down, since most athletic departments rely, almost entirely, on football revenue to cover expenses. That then leads to less opportunity and access to higher education for under privleged youth and all the political crap that goes along with that.

Did I take that too far?

Good....another scholarship we can use for sanctions.

He was a senior so him leaving now does not help necessarily. We lose a practice body. He should of left 2 years ago... At least then we could of used his scholarship.

Actually, it does reduce the sanctions counter down 1, since it means we'll be playing with one less scholarship player for the season. Not sure what you mean it doesn't matter with regards to sanctions... Though it certainly doesn't matter when it comes to number of scholarships we can offer next cycle.
