David Aranda as possibly UM's next DC?

Two rules about coaching hires:

1) Coaches hire coaches who have some prior association with them. For example, one played for the other; formerly were
fellow assistants on a previous staff; personal ties,etc...In other words, they hail from the same coaching tree.

2) Coaches move on to other jobs when: they are getting a promotion (ie., from positional coach to coordinator), they
are getting a significant bump in salary; they have strong ties to the school and/or area; they are going to work for
a head coach whose strength is on the opposite of the ball (hence, he has alot of autonomy); he has been fired or
is about to be fired.

This Aranda is a solid coach....but his situation does NOT meet any of the criteria above.
LOL at him wanting to leave dairy country for sunshine.
Da fugg does that mean?

This. Panaros, I love what you bring the this board but sometimes it seems like you are just drawing names out of a hat (this applies to recruiting too). Golden isnt dumping D'onofrio. Not this year atleast. There's no way a guy like Al, who preaches loyality and 'sticking the the process' turns on his best friend and a guy who rose with him at Temple like that. Especially after enduring the NCAA mess together. NO WAY!!

Look at Golden's hires as a HC @ UM. Besides Mario (who he got to know when he first got to UM), Kehoe (who basically begged to get back at UM), and McDonald (not sure of their connection), Golden either worked previously with coaches he hired or had someone else on his staff who could vouch for them (this is how Coley and Carroll ended up here). I dont see a screnario where AG hires someone outside of his network. Remember, he coached under JoePa and Al Groh. There are plenty of coaches in that network.

I started a thread about hoping UVA tanks sooo bad the they have no choice but to fire MIKE LONDON. I truly believe this is our best chance at seeing a significant change with the defensive play-calling. LONDON replaced GOLDEN as UVA's DC and ran the same D (except a more aggressive version). Both coached under Al Groh. LONDON's speciality is working with the DL. It would be an amazing hire and doesnt seem unrealistic. Plus, 'fan-favorite' Jethro would be shown the door.

I pray everyday that UVA get destroyed against VT next week... like by 70+....

What about Jedd Fisch?
Or are you just talking about defensive coaches?

I still don't think Golden boots Dorito, but if he does, who are realistic options from within the same coaching tree? Anyone?

Hey Paranos, what do you think about Sasquatch as our defensive coordinator? I'm sure he'd bring in a Pegasus to coach the DL after we lose Jethro Franklin to Mars, but once we add the Tooth Fairy to our strength and conditioning staff, we'd definitely improve up front.

So D'onofrio goes from fielding 2 historically bad defenses in consecutive years to a head coach job?

I LOL'd at this. no ******* way Dorito gets a HC gig at this point.

AG wont ever get another major gig IF he doesnt get rid of this steaming pile of dog **** that he calls a defense

Are we really paying Dorito 500K or more?

UM is a private skool that does not formally report coaching salaries. That said, ESPN and USA Today have good back-channel sources. ESPN reported that James Coley is making $500K. It was me who made the assumption on this board that Dorito is making the same. My guess is that everyone is quoting me from this extrapolation. I cant imagine it being too far off.

If Coley's making $500k as a 1st year OC, then Duh is probably making at least $600k as an experienced DC and as Al's right hand man and Assistant HC.

I believe Fisch was an assistant with seattle when he was hired (where he coached under Pete Carroll). Brennan Carroll (Pete's son) was hired by Golden before Fisch. And I believe Brennan coached with Jethro at USC under Pete as well...

Almost all coaches hire assistants who they know from their own networks. This is definitely not something new. There's a reason NFL and college coaches always seem to find jobs no matter how bad their track record may be. Randy was an exception to this, but then again, he didn't have a very big network to work with.

TBH, I like paranos' suggestions and believe they'd be a HUGE improvement from what we currently have, but I just don't think its realistic.

The Kevin Patrick homer **** has to stop. He's ******* out of coaching and the only place he ever coached was USF. No other program offered him a job after Taggert sent him packing. Love the guy, but no. Not here. Not now.

Patrick didn't want to leave florida he owns a $6 million medical billing company in south Floridas with his wife so money wasn't an issue this is why he stayed at USF for over 10 years making $100k when he would have been paid more at other schools. Patrick has been out of coaching for 10 months that gap of time is nothing in coaching! Especially considering the type of NFL players he has developed while at S.Fla.

He would be perfect for UM both from a coaching and budget perspective.

Another nugget that would make Dave Aranda ideal is that he also coaches LB, which would allow him to supplement Coach Barrow in coaching up the LB's. Not to mention I am sure he would love to talk X's and O's on a regular basis with Ray Lewis, since Aranda is a true student of the game.

Wisconsin is in Orlando, FL playing in the Capital One bowl. I am hoping UM's AD has had a private meeting with David Aranda while they were in Orlando to feel him out and his interest in coming to Miami. Especially considering this guy is a California guy who spent the last few years in Texas and Hawaii before spending the 2012 season in Utah and now the 2013 Season in Wisconsin where last week there was 3 feet of snow and -10 degree weather. So being in the high 70's in Orlando for Bowl week will definitely have him thinking.

**** even if UM just matched his $480K and through in a $40k signing bonus, moving to Florida save him 10% state income which give him an effective $50K bump in take home pay. Plus the benefit of living in Florida.

Go Canes!
