Bartow wrote a new piece today quoting Felix. He seems to be all about that Nike life.
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Running back Darrian Felix (Fort Myers, Fla.) said he could commit to Oregon when he officially visits October 7-9.
He said Oregon leads pretty big and he's excited to see what the atmosphere is like when the Ducks host rival Washington.
"The fan base," Felix said. "What it's like on game day."
Felix said he talks to running backs coach Gary Campbell once a week.
"He said he can't wait to get me on campus to show me everything they have to offer me," Felix said.
Felix is high on the Ducks’ no huddle, no mercy tempo offense, an attack where he could play back and slot.
"Their tradition," Felix said. "All their Nike stuff. Where it's at. On the West Coast. Right at the top."
I’ve logged a Crystal Ball pick in for Oregon as the Ducks now have 82-percent followed by nine-percent for Miami and nine-percent for Tennessee.
Felix said if he doesn’t publicly commit to his favorite he would like to officially visit his No. 2 school, Tennessee, and his No. 3 school, North Carolina, this fall as well before making a verbal commit.
Volunteers assistants Larry Scott and Robert Gillespie have made an impression.
"I really, really, really like the coaching staff at Tennessee," Felix said. "I'm going to their game against Alabama."
Tar Heels running backs coach Larry Porter is making a big push of late.
"He's a cool guy to talk to," Felix said of Porter. "You can have a real conversation with him at any time. Down-to-earth guy. He's a great coach. I want to get up there for a game. I just like their no huddle, fast paced (offense). Just their tradition. It's North Carolina. Michael Jordan went there. Great opportunity for me to play early."
Felix said he plans to attend a home game at Miami, a program he’s also been in touch with, this fall as he wants to see the Hurricanes improvements this season.
He said he talked to Miami running backs coach Thomas Brown a week ago.
"He wants to get me back on campus," Felix said. "The coaching staff is great. The new staff is trying to get the job done. Trying to get Miami back on top. They are doing a little pro-style. What fits me is slot receiver and swing passes out of the backfield."
He said he's also still hearing from Mississippi State and Auburn.
Felix, who has 29 verbal offer, said he's still hoping for offers from LSU, Clemson and Ohio State.
Felix (5-11, 194) clocked an electronic 4.48-second 40-yard dash and a vertical jump of 40+ inches this summer at The Opening.
The three-star recruit is ranked as the nation’s No. 7 all-purpose running back by 247SportsComposite.
As a junior, Felix rushed 138 times for 1,029 yards with 17 touchdowns to go with 304 receiving yards and two scores.
He’s primed for an even bigger senior season, an effort that could solidify him as four-star material.
