Damon Wilson 2.0

I'm not sure of anything. If he is coming in handcuffed and forced to take holdovers on his staff how much control does he really have? The young guys are all at square one and will have to learn an entirely new system. I see a lot of uncertainty and maybes.
It was just disheartening to win games and really felt like you lost did you ever have that feeling last year.
We’d win on miracle plays , yet our opponents had recovered breaking offensive games running and passing and they hardly punted.

People think that with the same problems coming back boom we back .

This DC has to change theses kids mindset, you saw the same games of this front 7 just couldn’t be counted on for nothing.

Think about this take away Cams miracle passing ok just for a second now what would our record be .

This is what’s faces the DC the D that let opposing teams set record days in all phases against us and lost because of Cams 400 plus years 6 TD 4th quarters .

We’re trying to fix a problem with the same problem players , this DC will call them out in the open when the hands on hip plays shows up in practice.

This DC will boot camp these kids they’ll have a choice change or as they always do declare NFL ready .

You can't post that less than 25% of these croots pan out under Mario, then load them up on the depth chart. Bain could go either way at this point. He looked real DTish to me this year. He hasn't used a pass rush move since he registered for classes. Mesidor is being looked at like he is Abdul Carter on the edge and I haven't see it. Who else registered a stat besides Pickett?

Ahhhhhhhh, u learn fast grass hoppah

There’s choices this D front needs to make , take ownership of you position and training both tremendously lacking up front.

This DC will root out the weaknesses early I’m sure , yes he’ll speak of all the positives now but the film and how they train in OSW and what look like when they report.

We will see
Translation: This is about Bain

Well, he’s the leader of this fierce famed group.
I wanted to be sensitive to everyone who performed so well .

I tried
No need to be so dramatic

At some point these young DEs we spent a **** ton of money on gotta step up before we gotta spend a **** ton of money on proven DEs as well

I wish we could have landed Wilson. Became pretty clear from the random **** I was hearing it was gonna be a big task

Get these dudes here in the spring with a new DC and hope they save us some money on a mercenary. If not, it’s gonna be a big check but that’s what you gotta do these days

DE was a massive weakness last year. Tough to expect big changes unless you make big changes

I question the legitimacy of thistake my guy ….if this theory is correct about not having any control due to being “handcuffed” due to not being able to hire his own staff on DEF -

Then why was it that OC Shannon Dawson just coordinated a top 5 ranked offense in the country? Because we know for a fact that he didn’t bring in the OL coach, RB coach, WR coach, or the TE coach.

And if you say the success came from Cam Ward, then that’s Jimmies and Joes (players), not due to the fact that Dawson’s success had correlated with him being able to hire “his own guys”.

Familiarity within a coaching staff “can be” a net positive but it certainly doesn’t mean that guys are more likely to fail if they haven’t worked together in the past. And the proof of this is Dawson’s success with the offense in 2024.

The fact is if we get the right pieces on the field, and the right coaches to coach them up, we will see a successful DEF in 2025 - regardless of whether the new DC is working with holdovers or guys that he’s never worked with before.

I'm not making definitive statements. I'm not sure the correlation you are making with Cam. He is going to be a top 5 pick in the NFL draft so his case is unique. Do we have a 1st rounder on defense? Defense is more about personnel than offense in college. All 4 CFB finalists had household names on defense. Your post ends with IF which is my shared concern.

So then if it were about Cam, would the consensus be that if he’d stayed at Wazzu for another year would he have replicated his success with Dawson at UM?

Unique cases are guys who are going to be top 5 picks pretty much, like a Caleb Williams - he’d been the top pick in 2022 or 2023. That’s not the case with Cam Ward - Cam Wards circumstances changed and with that, his stock went from a Day 2 pick to the #1 or #2 overall pick.

Cam Ward put UM back on the map of relevancy as a CFB Power without a doubt, but one could argue that UM did elevated Cam Wards stock equally as it pertains to this draft stock - and this was done with an offensive staff that the OC DID NOT hire himself.

Regardless, this is an interesting topic and you do make a compelling argument - end of the day we all want the same outcome!

Btw - ur Lions are going down my guy…my money is on WSH and Daniels pulling off one of the greatest upsets in NFL Playoff history - sucks because I legitimately want to see Detroit get one…just won’t be this year!
