I'll be the first to admit, I just hadn't seen the 'big deal' about him thru 6 games.

That all changed this week. It's amazing what competition will do to reignite a player!

Still the wrong scheme for his abilities since Dawson/mario love running right between the guards every play but that was a huge run.
 
I have always liked the kid and what he brings to our RB room. He’s an old school north-south runner - a bruiser. What we had hoped Thad would have been for us.

He’s 235 lbs and makes tacklers pay for it. Brings a physicality to our O that we desperately need.

Problem is, when he’s in the game you know exactly what he’s going to do and that is run inside between the guards.

We’ve got Fletch, Lyle and Allan for the slash and dash. Martinez does exactly what we need him to do - and it won’t always be about yardage.

He's been underappreciated in short yardage and pass protection

Check out his Oregon state clips ... he's a North and South guy with crazy power ... still think we should incorporate the pistol to get him some easier reads ... fact of the matter is he's getting more comfortable running from the gun ... that and competition will tighten you up quick

He also picks up the blitz well.

Essential piece of our offense. We have two sledgehammers in the backfield. Mark Fletcher ****ed them up in the first half and then when it was time to hunker down and milk a 10 minute drive, these two horses come out and just bludgeon them down the field. When they scored on the kickoff return...they sent their defense out there to get their *** kicked again.

That 3rd quarter was the bodyblow quarter and just made sure that defense couldn't stop us when it mattered.

And, keeping our DBs off of the field is an absolute requirement. Them boys stink stink. Very undisciplined players.
