lol bih it was a joke based on how good our offense was. I do think the letting the ball bounce and losing 20 yds is a bit of CIS exaggeration. I can recall 2 bad times I saw that happen. But if you told me we would end up with 2 bad no catches where we lost 20 yards and in return we had zero muffed catches? I may take that trade off and I think the muffed punt turnover is the worst turnover that can happen. It crushes moral, defense is ****ed having to go back out, at minimum its usually a 30-40 yrd swing, I dont think there are many true game changing plays because there are so many opportunities to make plays elsewhere but a muffed punt is up there.Respectfully disagree. I am not cool at all with the lack of effort and execution by our punt returner. You may be right that it didn’t seem to hurt us as bad this last year as our offense was elite. Still not a valid reason why there was 0 effort by our punt returner to field the ball.
I would still rather start at our own 40-45 as opposed to our own 15-20 yard line. Ray Ray was costing us 20+ yards every time he refused to fair catch the ball. And as @OrangeBowlMagic pointed out earlier, it’s not like these punts were 20 yard line drives. Majority of them were normal punts with adequate hang time for him to get under and catch the ball, whether it be a fair catch or a catch with minimal return. He simply didn’t do either of those things.
Gotcha. Yeah, our special teams were certainly a disaster outside of Andy’s extra points and FG’s. I do feel that it was at least 9-10 times where Ray Ray had an easy opportunity to fair catch a punt and did not. You’re probably right that it didn’t necessarily cost us 20+ yards every time, maybe only on a couple occasions.lol bih it was a joke based on how good our offense was. What is not overexaggerated is aside from the safe play sure handed thing we had no juice on returns. He had a few shoe string tackles where he maybe turned it into something but **** even when we had Berrios as PR he was able to break a few here and there even though his first and most important job was catch the ball and let the offense work. I do wish we tried someone else to determine if it was a ray ray or a coaching thing. Lets be real outside of Andy kicking the ball through the uprights our ST was awfulllll. When we had George there last year he had a few ok returns but nothing memorable. Even the best RBs struggle with ****** OL and I cant say I saw many holes or lanes for ray ray.
Im hurt when it comes to the team so my bar is low. I do recall that one year probably a decade ago when we could notttt field a punt and like I said too many plays in a game to have true game changing plays but I am still convinced if JT4 catches that punt against UF we win.Gotcha. I guess if we want to look on the bright side, at least he wasn’t muffing the punts like our PR unit did so often in recent years.
