DAILY DEBATE: What is your projected starting secondary (nickel included)?

No, not really.

A grand total of 8 snaps at Nickel in the 4 years he's been in college.

He's played over 1,400 snaps in College, 1330+ of them have been at either Boundary or Field Corner.

Do with that information what you will.
Idk if he wants to move there but it would be pretty dumb to go out and get one of the top CBs in college football then say hey lets play him somewhere he never played before lmao

Let’s hope he can transition well there cause based off the guys they went and got it’s looking like that’s the plan

This thinking by staph is another example of why we continue to fail and why I have no faith in our coaching.

Some mix of

Ethan O'Conner
OJ Fred
Xavier Lucas
Patterson
Poyser

those are the Top 5 DBs, and I assume that'll be the starters in some way.

Brantley, Brown, and Karnley will get plenty of burn, too. Brantley probably in the slot and Lucas at safety in a lot of sets.

I think Poyser is the FS. I think Brantley is at Nickel until he is out for the season, then Mack replaces him. I think if you saw Brantely up close, you would assume why he gets hurt every year, small. Maybe he makes it through a season healthy at Nickel. It appears everyone has Markeith transferring, good call, but he isn't alone.

LCB - Chris Ewald/ Xavier Lucas
NCB - Damari Brown/ Amari Wallace
RCB - Romanas Frederique/ Ryan Mack
FS - Bryce Fitzgerald
SS - Zaquan Patterson

Based off what? Brantley has stats to back him up. Damari is a mystery at this point! Sure they will both play a big role this year. Cant wait to see how the puzzle comes together
I like his athletic profile and its leap time. If he’s here past spring he’s starting.

I disagree that OJ starting vs Notre Dame is a foregone conclusion. With all that talent we brought in at CB if he does indeed start week 1 it will certainly be because he earned it. This is a good thing as that type of fierce competition between quality players is what has been the foundation of our greatest teams.
This is something I've been wondering, everyone has OJ starting but what if he's not better than Brantley,Oconner and Lucas. Is he willing to stay and compete or does he hit the portal then. All these portal DB additions came here to start, can't wait to see how it all works out and who stays and who goes.

He is definitely going to start or he will be gone. You don’t put a freshman all American on the bench
It's competition. He had none last year. This year he does. It's not a matter of anyone "putting him" anywhere. It's a matter of starting whoever wins the competition.

What if O'Conner and Lucas outplay him? Is he untouchable because he was a freshman all American last year?

Yes that’s how it goes lol. He will be a starter. Lucas didn’t even start at Wisconsin. He has the physical tools but right now oj is ahead of him. Let’s be real we know spots are already reserved. There are only a few legit competitions

I have heard and read some things about the players’ workouts, but I will reserve judgement about who will start because I don’t think the coaches have any idea yet.

However, I like our quality DB depth. IMHO , we have the best quality DB depth in over a decade. Hopefully, we will have both nickel and dime packages this season on obvious passing (unlike last season). And I hope the Canes coaches put the right players in the best positions to be successful
