I responded on today's practice report asking about Chick and not hearing his name in the post practice reports.... How is he doing out there?

He hasn't been overly impressive but remember they aren't going 100% in from a physical standpoint. The coaches have probably told him not to push himself right now and to save himself for the season and avoid breaking down late in the year. He will be perfectly fine and I expect him to have a great season.

That makes absolutely zero sense. The coaches aren't going to tell him not to practice hard. That's completely contrary to Golden's approach to the program.

You must not have understood what I was trying to say...

The coaches aren't stupid, they know that Chick needs to stay fresh and healthy for the entire season. Of course they want him to practice hard, but they're not having him throw ppl around like he's capable of.

I don't think he has as good a year as last year. Just a hunch. Hope I am dead wrong on that.

What you're saying is that he should dial back his level of effort in practice (not doing things he's capable of) to stay fresh. That does not sound like the kind of thing that Golden would advise his players to do.

If he wants to keep Chick fresh, he'd have him serve as a player-coach for a practice.

Maybe the OTs are further along than we expected? Maybe Chick is doing his job and playing stout on the run, settiing the edge and allowing others to be free to make plays? Maybe it is still less than a week into the fall practice schedule?

My goodness...these guys are running pass skeleton and and have been in full pads how many days now? Relax a little bit here people. Chick is one of our top three defensive players and will be just fine.

Now that sounds plausible.

Thank you CyberCane.

Relax Guys - How many of you have seen film of practice? How many of you know if he is fulfilling his assignments? Do we know if the QB is allowed to be taken to the ground? Chick has a high motor, and great work ethic. He also brings leadership. He will be just fine.

He's a high energy guy with an amazing work ethic, but I am of the opinion that he's limited physically. His first step for a guy his size is a bit slow, and I'm not overly confident he'll be able to dominate bigger tackles. Just my opinion, but I think the fan base wants to believe Chick is better than he actually is, at least right now.

I think what Peter is trying to say is that Chick is basically on footballs version of a pitch count....

Not worried about Chick.

Not one iota.

Chick is O-K....he ain't all what some of yall make him out to be. Don't get me wrong, the kid has a "great motor" and all, but "beastly" or "man-child" or "instant impact player"?, he is not. JMHO.

Guy made an instant impact as a true freshman at the DE position in major college football. Yeah, he's "ok". Oh yeah, tied for the team high with five sacks.

I'm not worried, but he's going to be the focal point of opposing OL's and schemes next year. I think statistically he may struggle, but his value to the team will not. It will be easy for the message board coaches to criticize him without understanding his value.
