55 Current Players
13 Signed
2 Commits
4 Transfers

74 total

That means we have 11 to play with.
Hurts
Tate
Brothers
Jones

We probably only end up with about 80 total. When is the last time we went into a season with 85 scholarship players? Has to go back to the Shannon days.

We actually have 77 on scholarship if you count the transfers, commits, signees and the 2 walk ons we gave a scholarship to

And, more or less, you are only allowed to sign 25 per class. Based on that general rule of thumb, we really only have 6 spots left. If that's the case, then you're right, the max we could get to is 80, and that doesn't include a couple of additional outgoing transfers that we are almost certain to see.

I know we're all focused on Hurts, Martell, TE Coach and WR Coach right now, but this is the time of year where it'd be great if one of the roster guru's could help clarify just how many spots we have left to sign in this class and where we are likely to be vs. the 85.

Also, would JT4 count as an "initial offer" or whatever it's called? Or could he just slide right back in without counting against us since he was already on the team?

Jeff Thomas should not count as an Initial Counter. He has been enrolled at UM. Just because he "left the team" does not change things, as it also did not change things for Gerald Willis and his IC status.

Yes, there may be a discrepancy between our overall numbers (85 scholarships available) and the initial counter rules. At this point, everything is pretty crazy, and I do not want to hazard a guess. I would guess that our overall posture is that we are not going to go out of our way to target many more HS seniors than the ones who are still deciding on UM, and use many of our remaining slots for transfers. No need to get some late 2-star-wonders like Golden and Shannon would do.

From here on out, the next couple of years we are going to need amazing hit-percentages for our HS recruits to get back to 85, as I would imagine that we are going to be reserving some IC slots for JuCos, transfers, and grad-transfers. The portal is the hot new thing.

I would hope that (in the not too distant future) the NCAA revises the IC rules for transfers. Maybe they could consider a separate pool of ICs for transfers, or maybe you could increase your ICs for transfers by the number of transfers-out. Let's not forget, kids might choose to transfer after spring practice or summer practice, and why should they be limited ONLY to schools that did not sign all 25 IC slots for that year.

Just my 2 cents.

I have us at 75 with all publicly announced transfers, converted walk-ons and commits included.

Here is my latest draft. Will publish in a stand alone tread once the official roster is updated for 2019 with the early enrollees, etc

Did you forget to give Hedley his bag$, or does he not get that until after he signs? LOL

That's a big *** sophomore class. If you believe in the whole, lots of seniors is a good thing, we should seriously be peaking in 2021, Manny's third season.

This is a nice sheet. Do you track initial counters as well?

We don't necessarily have 11 spots to play with, or whatever number somebody comes up with. We will likely be limited by the per year initial counters limit, so I think it's unlikely we can get to 85 scholarships unless we give some more scholarships to walk-ons that have been on campus for more than 2 years.

Is Few on scholarship? I thought he was a PWO.

The transfer class counters all get applied to either 2018 or 2019, correct? For example, Kennedy can't be applied to 2015 or 2016 even though he's a red-shirted senior? If true, then do we know how many open counters we have from 2018 left, because that would absolutely be the limiting factor in how many we can take? I thought it was 3 or 4, meaning we could only take a maximum of 28 or 29 total, including transfers.
