Current Roster is 3 & 9 at best next year…MC’s year 4 special

Rewatch the Louisville game if you’ve got the stomach. The defensive line dominated that game, collapsing the pocket almost every time Shough dropped back to pass. The defensive back’s couldn’t cover anyone for more than a second or two. Their QB was running for his life all afternoon but coverage eventually broke down and he’d find an open receiver

I always re-watch the week after the game at least once, usually twice. And I do the same in the off-season. Most of the time. I haven't had the heart to fire up anything just yet, sadly. But I do remember what you're talking about. Shough made a lot of plays on the move in that game because he had no time to throw.

It's really crazy, the season played out almost exactly to the blueprint that a lot of us wanted it to. All summer, we said the offense should be one of the very best in the entire country, and if so, we're going to score a lot of points and cause the other team to have to press and try to catch up. So our DL would be able to generate pressure in obvious passing downs, and we could make a lot of plays. It went completely to script. Except we all underestimated how utterly abused our back 7 would get the entire ******* season, totally negating any performance by the DL (which still wasn't as good as it should've been). Incredible. We got exactly what we thought we wanted, and it wound up being the worst thing possible because every time a QB dropped back to throw the football against this defense, you had to hold your breath knowing he was going to eviscerate your ***.

In an ode to @JHallCanes, I wanted to look at how QBs performed versus Miami compared to their overall numbers.

Working backwards, here we go:

McCord -- 149.65 rating for the season, 231.04 against Miami (LOL). 78.6 season QBR, 90.5 against Miami (more LOL's. Perhaps a full blown ROFL)

Bachmeier - 132.95 raring for the season, 118.02 against Miami. 57.4 season QBR, 13.3 against Miami

GT's QBs -- Weird game with King not healthy, but Philo had a 114 rating on the season, 139.2 against us. Had a 65.3 QBR, of course 92.5 against us. King had a 154 rating on the year, 199 against us. Had a 78.6 QBR on the year, with 57.0 against Miami (odd, he didn't have a single incompletion)

Murphy -- 133 rating for the season, 137 against Miami. 56.5 QBR on the year, 77.3 against Miami

FSU -- Another game with multiple QBs, but the defense played well in this one. Both Glenn and Kromenhoek had worse numbers than their season numbers, which is saying something cause both kids were super duper ***.

Shough -- 148.15 rating for the season, 142.99 against Miami. So, very close. QBR for the year was 75.5, against Miami was 71.2

Mendoza -- 144.5 for the season, 179.7 against Miami. 64.2 QBR for the season, 78.2 against Miami.

Drones -- 128 for the season, 119 against Miami. 53.0 QBR for the season, but 78.8 against Miami.

So we really had two games the entire ACC schedule where we forced the opposing QB to be even decently worse than they played all year. FSU and Wake. That's it.

Mendoza was WAY better against Miami
McCord was WAY better against Miami
Drones had a much better QBR than the rest of his season
GTs QBs were much better
Murphy and Shough were about the same. Shough slightly worse, Murphy slightly to a bit better (QBR was much higher)

That's so ******* pathetic. Comparing these kids to them playing Stanford, and Cal, and Wake, and Boston College etc. etc....they're WORSE or the same against those teams as they are when they play big, bad Miami. Utterly disgraceful.

This is the reality of our current roster. Ws vs Bethune, USF & NC State at best. We should not be in this position whatsoever; well managed programs should not be in this position. We are not developing!

This will be the most important offseason in decades. Whoever QB comes and if a QB comes next year he won’t have the pieces Killa Cam had.

Real tough to replace below production obviously outside Cam ….

WR combo X,George & Horton (better than any WR in roster or coming /debatable)
Arroyo a beast
Martinez a beast and a monster protecting the QB
River & hope Anez stays
Borregales - top FG kicker
Hope Messidor stays and play DE

We all know DC and other coaches must find new gigs.

Not a mope by any means but it discomforts me the idea of a potential awful season with 2 huge rivalry games at home…. In year 4

Current roster is 3&9 next year…. Open to debate

MUCH TO DO AND CHANGE MARIO… MUCH TO DO AND CHANGE
Even with Emory this is one of the most estrogen filled *****y post that I’ve ever seen

Awesome stuff man (even though it’s ugly)

It’s the type of thing to consider when people were still throwing out those “top X defense” stats we supposedly had when anyone with eyes knew those stats were misleading

Here's a thought I can't shake. In hindsight, looking at the 2024 team's roster and the schedule, 10 wins was the floor. Every opponent had an inferior roster, despite how weak our secondary was. But we lost 2 games and damnear 2 more. The team played to its floor. And you could say the same about 2023 and 2022. So, the question for 2025, in my view, is what is the team's floor?

Not arguing with you but we also damnear won the 2 we lost. It's why there's so much variance in this game. We could have easily been 8-4. We could have easily been 12-0.

The longer the season went on, the worse the defense got. By the time we got to Syracuse and Iowa State it was a miracle if we got a single stop. About halfway through the season, you could realistically say we had a decent defense. We just had too many 15 yard plays turn into 40 yard plays. That’s something that should have been easy to shore up. But the further along we went. The worse we got at almost everything. We stopped being able to defend anything on the perimeter. We couldn’t play man coverage. We couldn’t play zone coverage. We couldn’t ******* get lined up without a ton of confusion. The slightest bit of motion would send our defenders into panic with nobody knowing their assignment switches. Our MLB became a complete waste when not blitzing. It got embarrassing. I’ve never seen a defense just completely collapse over the course of a season where there weren’t catastrophic injuries. There was no way they could have brought back Lance Guidry.

Zero excuses year 4 for Mario

In TrumpyCane's opinion the schedule isn't as hard as people are making it to be

Funny how alot of us clang to all the hopium we could conjure up after the WF game thinking the D had seen the light, unfortunately it wasn't the light we had all hoped for.

I love how he never even responds after this. LMAO. Can't ever be wrong if you ignore the people who prove otherwise.
I mean the guy did post a random AI generated blurb saying it was the most points ISU had ever scored and like most people these days, he didn’t bother to do any further information searching and just ran with it. Hey if it confirms your preconceived notions, it’s gotta be true, right?
