Ultimately it falls on coaches to get the right players to execute their plan.

When you have an AA at Safety and the leader of the defense and he jumps a route when you're ONLY job is to not let anybody behind you to prevent a game winning TD, I'm not sure what else coaching can do there. You supposed to bench Kam the next game? And then he makes more mistakes against UNC?

When you have a 4th year QB who still can't see underneath coverage, there's not much more coaching that can be done. He's still the best option they have

Parrish hasn't fumbled for 2 years. How does coaching prevent that fluke play from happening when he does everything else he's supposed to do?

A bad snap by Matt lee? What's a coach supposed to do about that?

Jaden Davis mis timing a jump? How does coaching fix that? He's just limited physically and we don't have a better option at CB.

whose decision was to put Davis on an island? there are other CBs out there and Davis was getting smoked.

the Parrish fumble is just bad luck I agree. the bad snap too. the lack of adjustments to UNC? not bad luck. the boneheaded flag on 4th down bc a coach can't see a ref stopping play in the middle of the field? not bad luck (that led to a TD btw). the lack of discipline we've seen all year? not bad luck.

in the end, we've been a mistake prone team since the beginning of the year. it just worked out against atm bc of our offense. it dint matter the rest of the way until tech bc we had a soft schedule to get fat.

you know what would have prevented Kam jumping a route? taking a knee. yes I wont let it go bc it was absolutely fireable.

Which CB should have been on that WR? None of them are good enough.

Then you play soft and Maye and the RB shreds us underneath.

Some adjustments should have been made but I'm sure the coaches were thinking at half time just like I was.

"We're good..we should be up 10+ if not for a few fluke plays. Let's keep doing what we're doing and cut down on the mistakes and we'll win this game easily."

And it's true. If we play a mistake free 2nd half, we win by 2+scores against UNC.

I'm not disagreeing with you that the coaches don't have a role in these last 2 losses. Obviously they do and ultimately they're the ones getting paid millions of $$$ per year.

I'm just saying it's both/and not either/or.

I hope the team has a culture of internal evaluation..the players are looking in the mirror and saying "this is what I can do differently" and the coaches are doing the same thing about themselves.

Coaches make mistakes and the players cover it up..players make mistakes and the coaches work around it.

That's what makes it a team. They all need to be doing their part.

Zero confidence in this team or the staff right now. Really hoping we finish 8-4, with a Gasparilla Bowl victory. I'm of the belief that we are Pittsburgh. Decent program with rich history but we will never really contend consistently again.

Amazing that we get beat regularly by a school like UNC. It's freaking sickening. A dub versus Clemson would be huge.

How many INTs did TVD throw against GT? What about Kam's busted play? Of course Mario should have kneeled but that shouldn't have mattered against GT.

Against UNC, almost every negative play was on a player, not a bad call.

Parrish fumble
TVD INT
Matt lee bad snap fumble
Davis mis timed jump on deep ball (in position)
Kam out of position on 3rd and 20 (coverage was there)

Mario has made his mistakes and I'm usually the first to blame coaching, but the UNC loss was more on poor execution than coaching in my opinion and the GT loss should have never came down to one possession if not for all the terrible execution (and refs).
I agree but he's told me for 18 games that they have to "get back to work" and "coach it better."

When are they going to do that? 18 games in and I'm still waiting.

The real concern with these interviews is that it exposes his influence on the play calling.

Mario's directive is to eatablish the run first in order to set up the pass later.

He wants to be methodical instead of fast tempo.

Mario wants to win HIS WAY over winning in general, and that's why he will fail.

All due respect, you think a coach like Mario wants to call in to the Joe Rose Show every Monday or to get up in the media room like this to explain losses to scrub writers?

Dude wants to get back to Greentree to get to work. All that “blah, blah, blah” is part of the job he’s forced to do.
Thats it. Nothing he will say will satisfy anyone, but he has to do it.

He conceded that "the tempo got us"

No shid, Frankenstein. The tempo killed us offensively and defensively.

I would add that I was incredibly frustrated with tempo-related struggles in that we were so slow to get lined up, with each segment of the defense consistently trotting into their spot, still looking at the sideline and the ball was snapped.

The DBs were more egregious offenders than the other units, JW had me shaking my head most of the night, Couch was consistently turned around when the ball was snapped (in what I interpreted as an effort to direct traffic).

But while that unit was really ugly, the sense that every defensive player on that field was late to get lined up and sideline watching right up till snap indicated to me an umbrella schematic or systemic issue.

That isn’t to say the players didn’t fail to execute or that Carolina didn’t recognize it and take further advantage, just that if we’re like that over and over and over there’s something wrong with the way drew it up or set it up.

I also hated the high/low set up we ran on the play side of the field in multiple receiver sets, felt that was just creating more coverage gaps when we already struggle with that, but that’s a gripe for another day.

What? The man loves to hear himself talk. I don’t see how any of that is debatable. He uses 100 words when 10 will do. Most of the words are “tough, physical and work” though
