Off-Topic Crime 2.0

Anyone old enough to recall the Subway Vigilante, Bernhard Goetz? Shot four Black youths on the 2 Train in Manhattan back in 1984. Thought they were gonna mug him. One guy was left a paraplegic and later got a $40M judgement against the vigilante. Goetz served a year or so in jail I think.

Last I heard of Goetz he was a self-described Covid Denier, arrested for not adhering to NYC quarantine reqs at the height of the pandemic.

Then, there's alwways the Charles Bronson Death Wish movies. I'm sure some remakes are on the way, given this recent spate of subway crime.

Nope… but that type of story is basically commonplace on the subway in NYC these days. Violent crime and deaths are happening as frequent in one calendar year as used to be 13 years in total

Look up that case on Wiki. Very interesting parallel to these days. Think you'll find it an interesting read.

Portland's last R mayor was 40 years ago. There is a pattern here, even Inspector Clouseau could figure it out.

Constance McCready (born Constance Averill, August 20, 1921 – December 22, 2000), was a journalist and politician from Portland, Oregon, in the United States. She held several elected offices in Oregon during her career, including the Oregon House of Representatives, the Portland City Council, and culminating with a partial term as Portland's mayor. To date, McCready remains the last Republican to serve as mayor of the city.

Seattle's was in 1969.

Crime on the subways has been an issue since the system first opened. NYC has their own separate Transit Authority police force of 4,000 officers. THat's in addition to the 50,000 who work for NYPD. Those Transit Cops are not there just to stop turnstile jumpers.

Sure but u must have missed what I said… it’s increased dramatically, and it’s not even close.

This is just about murders … check out the graphic in it.

Look at the percentages in this article!

Listen to the video in this link…

Remember DiBlasio wanting to defund the police and cut $1 billion from their budget…

How about “Anti-cop hostility, bail reform, and rising crime have fed into frustration among the NYPD rank and file”…

Making cops get vaccinated…

These are liberal policies, creating an environment with less cops and the criminals feeling emboldened (because of no bail and lax DA) and the victims the ones who pay. And they are doing it right in front of our face

If there are less Transit Authority cops today, it's not much of a reduction. I think most of these violent attacks and murders are attributable to the homeless population of the city which has grown ever larger. These folks should be in mental institutions, if there were still enough to go around and meet the need. "Mainstreaming" of people with severe mental illness has seemingly not worked.

Really? That's the excuse? All the sudden there's this brand new homeless population in NYC?

You really aren't going with that excuse right?

BTW, if you go through those links I provided... it gives you all the correct answers. Less NYPD cops (via $1 billion in cuts, vax mandates and anti-cop rhetoric over the past couple years forcing early retirement and people quitting), then in NY they did No Cash Bail and soft sentences by way of the DAs which means that criminals know they will be right back out on the streets that same day or the next.

But you are going with there is homeless people that should be in mental institutions. Well, that part I agree with... throw them all in there. However, just a hint... that's not why NYC violent crime has blown through the roof. And if you actually read through all the links that I provided, you would know that and not come up with that weak excuse

Lightfoot needs to resign in disgrace

I am going to imagine that the majority of the people voting for her are sheltered by person security and suburb police. Things won’t change until this stuff spills into the upper and middle class areas. Just like nobody cared about businesses in small areas shutting down in California due to shop lifting but when the fancy shops started getting hit the DAs started looking at recalls.

I think those ballot box watchers (with the semi automatics) in Arizona need to come up to the NYC subway after the midterms. If the incompetent mayor and inept governor aren’t going to do anything about crime, then someone should help out the citizens of NYC
