Could Keith Bryant come in and make an immediate impact?

Possibly, but it is VERY difficult for a true freshman DT to make an impact his first year. DTs most often rely on physical abilities in HS without much technique. They also usually lack the strength required to line up against (just as strong), 6-4, 300 pound guys.

AU hit it on the head, its hard for a 18 year old kid going against a 21 or 22 year old Jr or Sr who has been 4 yrs in a college S/C program

But I still expect him to get alot of playing time ala Earl Moore his frosh year

Even the 5 star guys who went to FSU couldn't get valuable PT their freshman years... Tim Jerningan, Mario Edwards. If you want decent dline he shouldnt be playing next year

Jernigan played a significant amount his true Frosh year.

Here is the thing...will he come in right away and play? YES.

But, will he come in and be put into a position to immediately succeed? Probably not. Have an immediate impact? I'm gonna say no...

If Miami had themselves a solid rotation of defensive tackles, I'd say yes. Bryant is supremely talented. But, he's going to be a freshman...not quite physically developed for primetime. But, he will play because his talent is off the charts. And, there aren't enough guys that are that much more physically developed than him ahead of him in the rotation to keep him fresh and allow him to simply do what he does best. If there was, I'd say he'd come in and be an impact freshman, but since there aren't, he'll be asked to play more than he should and the results will be a mixed bag. You'll see some flashes of that 5* kid, but then you'll see him make freshman mistakes and wear down as the season goes on.

I think we go more 3-4 next year, with Green, Chick, Hamilton seeing a lot of action at ends, maybe with a Bostwick in the mix, and only 1 NG in the middle. That would mean our DT depth starts looking really good, with Porter & Pierre our first in, then L-Rob, Bryant, Moore and Ivery. If we get a high-impact Juco 4-3 DT, we would be in great shape finally.

Gonna be another long year if we have to rely on true freshman DL.

i thought Al was a great talent evaluator? What about his last two classes full of DL?

You said it yourself. They've only been in college for 1 or 2 years. I think you'll see a significant jump from Pierre next year. If you do, it'll show the type of evaluator we can count on.

Agree on Pierre. If Porter could just stay healthy next year we would have a solid Porter-Pierre base to work with. Robinson (will he be around?), Grimble, King, Moore, Ivery should all get better with another year and add Bryant and a JUCO guy. Its not great but its a **** of a lot better looking picture then 2011 and 2012.

I don't always cry over spilled milk, but when I do, it's about Goldman not coming here

This.

Moore has been solid for a true frosh but Bryant is better than Moore right now. It won't be pretty but Bryant will do some things next year.

I also expect Bryant to be playing the 3 techique DT spot, hes not a big heavy run stuffer made for NT

Porter when healthy is a stud

I look for Pierre to take a big step forward

Robinson should be very serviceable

And I'm expecting Moore and Ivery to be much better and make progress like Pierre did this year

If we get a JUCO kid like Hooks I can see them making an impact right away obviously, but a guy like Byrant will probably fill that Moore role with more flashes because of his ability (and because we might just have a decent D-line that doesn't just have one or two guys who the offense can focus on)

Didn't Forston play quite a bit his true frosh year? He didn't pan out, but we didn't know how he would've turned out that point, when we were all praising him.
