Corn Elder Is Better Than Crawford and Clements

He is a corner and he will be a great one.

Kid is just smooth at cb d.

First time I saw him there I said man kid looks like a vet...he has big ability down the road...and kid may have made hope and dortch expendable

I agree. Corn has the hips. He also just seems to be a natural football player in an elite athlete's body.
As for Dortch and Hope, who are they?
Seriously, I know they are on the team, but I can't remember them playing at all.
They seem to be on the same team as David Perry and Dwayne Hoilett.

Crawford rushed for 252 yards and 2 touchdowns in his only two starts this season.

I'm good with him handling the carries over the 173 lb freshman.

Elder should've been a running back or a slot receiver....

he's the 5th corner in the rotation when he wouldve been one of the main offensive weapons for this team especially after Duke went down.

It's pointless for anyone to play in this defense anyway

DC is a great number 2 guy, kid runs hard every time he has the ball. He's not Duke, but not many RBs in America are

He looks great at RB in his high school highlights but that's high school. He could be pretty good but throwing him in the fire is not the solution, think the coaches would have done so already if they thought that was the case. The dude looks 160lbs, probably could only tote the rock 5 times before he is broken in two or injured. Needs time to bulk up. However at CB he can contribute right away even though he is small. Missing out on Collins hurt, he would be starting by now. But he looks like a dumb ****, wanted to be a feature back in hillbilly hog town huh? Would be the feature back at the U right now. Oh well, just bitter losing three in a row :( :)

Ok, fine, let's talk about Corn. I live in Chattanooga and I have a friend who was an all-state RB at Baylor HS about 10 years ago (local private school which is kind of like Gulliver Prep) and now is a DC at a public school in NW Georgia. I have another friend who played at East Ridge HS (suburb of Chattanooga) a while back and is very familiar with TN high school football. They both say in spite of the competition in high school that Corn played against (pretty weak private school competition), he is the real deal. Best RB they've seen in TN in a long time. My one friend said he was the best RB TN has produced since Gerald Riggs, Jr. (I had another friend that played on the Red Bank state title team with him in 2000...yeah I'm kind of a big deal up here, but I digress).

They both think he can be used as a scatback, slot WR, 3rd down back, Reggie Bush at USC, Darren Sproles at the Saints type of RB. Not an every down back. When I told them he was moved to defense they both said he would be a great CB despite his size. He plays much bigger than his size, not afraid of contact, and obviously has great speed. They said he just has the "it" factor. That said, they also said he should have redshirted to try and put on 10-15 more pounds to play at 190+.

Last thing they said, and they both said it, was once he sees the basketball court, he may never see the football field again, he's that good of a PG. Don't know if that's true, and the basketball team seems to have Larkin's replacement in the freshman from Belgium in Manu Lecomte and the transfer sitting out from K-State, Rodriguez, but we'll see.

Just thought I'd share, because rarely do I have "insider" info, if you can even call it that.

Elder should be at RB

IMO - Corn will be playing RB/Slot next year. He is at CB this year for recruiting purposes. Golden is trying to fill 3 RB roster spots. Yearby, Powell and whoever. He would have a hard time doing that if he couldnt show recruits the lack of depth at the position. Why would any RB recruit come here if they knew they had to fight for playing time against Duke, Dallas, and Corn for 2 years.

This is what I had hoped our coaches would give him a shot at. Thanks for sharing.

I think he's a nightmare with the ball in his hands for all the reasons given. Get him the ball in space and watch the magic. I'm not mad he's a corner I'm sure he'll do fine. Indeed, Corn does play bigger than his size and has the "it" factor. I just would have liked to see what he could do situationally catching passes out of the backfield or in the zone running game, which I think fits his skill set as a runner.

I'm not as concerned about his weight because guys like Corn understand the game and how to make people miss and I'd like to think Coach Coley can figure out Corn isn't a sledgehammer. Pair him with the Bus in the backfield on third and short and you can be really creative. In any case, again, I know he'll ball out at corner.

Looking at the corner spot for 2014, with Howard, Gunter, Elder, Crawford, and Burns all seemingly capable of playing at a high level, I've got to think we experiment with a couple of those guys at Safety, where we can use a major upgrade in terms of performance.

And it's not that I don't think Jenkins and/or Bush can get where we need them to be, but I haven't seen the improvement I would have liked/expected (yes, I know Bush has been hurt and has a ton going on off the field). Hopefully between those two guys and Carter we finally get back to having some play makers at safety. But if not, and heck, really just for purposes of depth, I wouldn't mind seeing some of those other guys get a shot.

this. one of my employees was an athletic trainer at ensworth and he said that he would be surprised to see him play 4 years of football (or even use all of his eligibility in either sport) because he's just that good at basketball. he was underrecruited because of his size, but he's very similar to larkin.

Yep. I've argued that behind Burns, he's the most talented athlete we have on defense in our 2 deep.

Actually clements has a bigger play ability than dc. I wonder y he doesn't play more

Seems like he gets 2 plays a game runs for 20 yards and then gets benched. My only guess here is he is still having medical problems and we don't want to risk his health with to many carries.

All of this except for the BBall part. Watched Corn in the BBall title game last year. He's good, but his game needs work. He's a better football player imo.

He's the best player to come out of my area in a long *** time.

I'm sorry OP, you're wrong for now. DC has been a workhorse for us, and every time they do give clements the ball, he bruises and fights for every yard, and he happens to be averaging 7.3 ypc
