Best bbq in metro Houston? We might need to know for the Final Four and I think I've only been to Killen's.

Definitely agree. We've done a decent job with our collective so far, getting some of the local mid-sized businesses in Houston without UH ties to invest in our players, specifically in basketball.
So legit question: Don't you agree that a collective, with no product to market by the endorsees and no services to promote is nothing more than pay to play? So really the collective, of which there are many, is an illegal way of getting around pay for play?

Im gonna jump in here, if yo dont mind.

The idea behind NIL is that a player can make money on their name, image, and/or likeness. There is no requirement that they sell their NIL to a corporation. We're currently seeing players marketing their own t-shirts and other merchandise online. Those are direct to consumer items. We can look at the Johnnie Manzel case where he was selling autographs. That was direct to consumer and is now allowed.

Given that, my question is why do people think it needs to be a corporation that purchases the NIL products and/or services from a college athlete?

I would agree that a collective that doesn't connect athletes with businesses looking to market is pay-to-play. The Houston "collective", LinkingCoogs, does not fit that description, however.

It consists of many businesses in Houston or with ties to UH, who use LinkingCoogs as a conduit through which they provide NIL opportunities to our athletes. Gallery Furniture (Mattress Mack), TDECU (Texas Dow Employees Credit Union), Inaka Power, Pinkerton's Barbecue, Bose, and Chastang Ford are just a few of the businesses who have inked NIL marketing deals with our athletes through LinkingCoogs.

A little late to the party, but the best bbq in Houston is made by a guy named Willow Villareal. He does pop-ups at bars and breweries now, but he opened J-Bar-M and worked at Killens for a little bit.

Truth, Tejas Chocolate & BBQ, and Corkscrew are all legit great spots though.

Nah, only Pig is bbq.
Nope, I grew up in Memphis - loved my pulled pork and baby back ribs - Tn BBQ. Moved to Texas 42 years ago and find another family of BBQ - Brisket and sausage - as well as Pork Ribs, Beef Ribs . I have cooked them all - and the are all BBQ! Read it and weep! Open up your Horizons!!

Bench
#32 Reggie Chaney, 6’8, 230 lbs, Sr. PF, Tulsa, OK
2022-2023 AAC 6th Man of the Year
2.9 PPG, 2.6 RPG
The numbers don’t jump off the page with Chaney, but he does a lot of the dirty work and little things that define the Houston program. Kelvin Sampson trusts Chaney as much as any player on the roster to do what is expected of him (get on the floor for lose balls, chase down rebounds, etc.) The best ball screen defender amongst the Houston bigs, although they all are more than capable.

Umm... how the f*** does averaging 2.9 ppg and 2.6 rpg get you conference 6th man of the year? The math ain't mathing.

I love Brisket but pulled pork is BBQ in the other south. If somebody said they were barbecuing here it means a whole pig. Like when I lived in Ohio, Pa, Michigan everybody would say we are barbecuing today and I was hella confused. I would come over and they had a gas grill cooking steaks. I had to break it down that isn't barbecuing lol.

I’ll admit, a lot of Cougar fans were surprised to see him get the award also, but his value doesn’t show up on the stat sheet. He does a lot of little things that impact winning, which obviously got noticed by the other coaches in the AAC as that’s who votes on conference awards
