'the Flash' from the fabled and legendary 'Bermuda Triangle' linebacking crew of the early 90's for his induction into the College Football Hall-of-Fame. In my view, there is no better trio than him, Michael Barrow and Jessie Armstead, when you look at the totality of their college careers, and what they did in the NFL

Smith is one of the best athlete's UM has ever had, and in my view, the most complete OLB in program history. I still recall how he obliterated Prince Wimbley of Alabama on a punt return in the 1990 Sugar Bowl. Never seen a backer who could run the way he could. Also, vs the run-n-shoot Houston Cougars, he and Armstead never came out of the game. They just blanketed their slot WR's all night long.

Truly one of the programs all-time great players. Also, a swell guy if you've ever met him.

Absolute truth. When I was an undergrad, I tutored all three of them, though to be honest, Darrin Smith was pretty **** smart, and only really needed the tutoring to satisfy the Academic Services department.

He is a nice guy. I met him walking into the Orange Bowl in 2002 for the Florida State game. I was 19. I was carrying a game program from a old Halloween game against West Virginia that my my Dad got Jessie Mitchell to hobble on crutches to the lockerroom to get Lamar Thomas to sign bc as a kid, I thought Lamar hung the moon. My dad has passed so I think about these things

I said hello and Go Canes and he saw that program, laughed, said where did you get that. There was a picture of the three of them Armstead, Barrow, and himself. Paused for a minute smiling. flipped through it for a second, with the Bumblebee tuna football cards in there. He borrowed a pen asked if I wanted him to sign it. I said **** yeah. He was pretty cool. He was just real nice. Said Go Canes. The funny part is he was wearing jean shorts. 🤣 I'm serious. All the times I heard the Gators/jorts thing it's the only thing I think of.

💯!

I watched him back in his day as well-Everything you said about him is spot on-Coming out of Miami Norland he was very underrated nobody knew who he was-He epitomized what a Miami LB was back in the day.I remember when they went up to Happy Valley , they beat Penn St-The Bermuda Triangle smothered them all game.
There has never been a better sideline to sideline LB.

Well said and agree. They set a bar we most likely wont see a group get close to again.

I remember his pick six in the 1990 Cotton Bowl rout of Texas. I unfortunately was traveling that day and didn’t get home until the second half. It was only a few minutes after turning on the television, Smith had his touchdown.

Hundred percent agree the Bermuda triangle will all the best defensive units the Canes have had.

that 1991 defensive gave up like 9 points a game. Just unreal. And they never really had a nickel or dime package because of those three guys

He was a freak athlete and was on the Miami track team running the 100 meters in 10.7 In the NFL he was 6'1" 235 pounds. He finished his college career with 401 tackles (fifth in school history).

One of our best ever … I think Darin krein was part of that crew as well and scored against ped st that day

Just checked out his stats in the NFL, I like to watch old highlights just for the sake of it and he kept showing up in them repeatedly.

11 years in a brutal era in NFL football, started 145 games with 749 combined tackles, 24 sacks, 3 FFs and 11 INTs. Only player in the history of the sport with two college rings and two NFL rings, probably a record for a lifetime.

A fire of passion burned in DS heart and a mindsets of focus so fierce and dominant.

Ray Lewis : spoke this of Rohan but reflects the mindset our team HAD in the days of RINGS.

“ Rohan scares me on game day”

When your time has and emulates a mindset like this completely , you put rings on order.

The Playmaker speaks of this in his locker room speeches to the team over the years to kids with ? marks in there eyes .

Very few tap into this mindset, but we had a couple recently one was the X as example.

Jessie Mitchell, he went to my high school. You could have bought his NC ring from the local pawn shop for $ 250.
