MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

"The specific financial figures for schools to get released from the grant of rights were not readily available. But the total cost to exit the league after the 2029-30 season is expected to drop to below $100 million dollars, sources said."

"Top earners are expected to net an additional $15 million or more, according to sources, while some schools will see a net deduction in annual payout of up to about $7 million annually, an acceptable loss, according to several administrators at schools likely to be impacted, in exchange for some near-term stability."

This is a pretty big deal and provides some needed stability for the conference. The fact of the matter is that it is unlikely that the B1G or SEC will make major realignment moves prior to the next round of negotiations post 2030. Ultimately, I believe that Miami will end up in the B1G post 2030, but this gives us the breathing room to bring more results to the table and get our other two major sports programs in order.

  • Less than $100M exit penalty to leave the ACC on July 1, 2030
  • Increased rev share tied to TV ratings beginning next fall (when, conveniently enough, we play ND, UF and FSU) that could lead to $10M-plus boost with the ACC's payout to UM
  • Afterthought programs about to take a major haircut which they can hardly afford
Jim Phillips' crap conference is plugged into life support the moment this deal is ratified.

Every single school — even on down to Wake Forest — is gonna be on the lookout for its next landing spot.

Once the first departure announcement leaks (and it'll be well before the 2029 football season), the conference will unravel quicker than a Lance Guidry "defense"

RIP ACC...

Yeah, probably time for the great @RVACane to go ahead and photoshop the ACC commissioner's face onto that "Weekend at Bernie's" poster

Funny thing is I don't think it will be a heavyweight making the first move toward the exit. I'm expecting the less football-driven schools like BC, Syracuse (and inevitably Pitt as well) to be very receptive to overtures from the Big XII.

Could see Brett Yormark consolidating Big East schools into his conference to allow the aforementioned ACC trio to reunite with familiar BE rivals in a regionally-compact division for all sports with the exception of football

Hello...

Seems like a good deal for us, as worst case scenario it defines an exact amount that will be needed to pay to fully exit with no issues, ranging from $200M immediately to <$100M in 2030. And in the meantime we are likely going to get $15M/yr more payout than we did this past season. I have no problem. Plus we get more ND games as well..
