Coley's burden

View as article
Coley is really green and not very advanced or intuitive as a play caller. He is better suited as a QB coach than OC.

If we have a true frosh starter at QB this year come opening day it is a MASSIVE failure on behalf of this corching staff.

told you catz along time ago that we missed out big on not recruiting Treon Harris... now we have to watch lil michael vick do his thing at the gaytors...

f**k you ALF...
Wait and see as I think Rosier is going to be better than Treon, bigger, better arm and as good a runner even though he didn't have the talent around him Treon did.

I am unwilling to write off a Rs freshman who has never taken a snap.

We should be a power running team first and foremost. We had some real success with that last year. One of my gripes with Coley is he has a tendency to go away from shi* that's working -- if we are ripping off 6 yards a run, stick with it.

Good writeup. I am really anxious to see how Kaaya does in fall camp although I wouldn't expect him to do too much due to lack of experience with the playbook.

He's had the playbook since spring he should be able to compete right away both Kaaya and Rosier have had the playbook since the spring.

Recruiting aside, we have 2 of the worst coordinators in the big5 and some of the worst position assistants. Only morons could not do well in Miami.

Clean house top - bottom if this season fails.

WTH is the "big 5"? Does anyone not a fan of UCF or USF put them in a grouping with UM, FSU, and UF? UM has sucked for virtually the last decade, but we still have 5 national titles. There is no big 5.

I believe he is referring to the big 5 conferences. Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, PAC

my bad

Ground and pound with the backfield and the OL, hit some home runs here and there. Dominate time of possession.

It's a simple formula to win with the personel we have this season, let Olsen not carry the burden of trying to win games for us, just make sure he doesn't lose them.

When is the last time our offense has been able to "ground and pound"? Virtually every year we hear how our OL is a strength, and we proceed to consistently fail to convert on 3rd and 4th and shorts, as well as goal line situations. If you're expecting a ground and pound offense then expect to be disappointed.

"Ground and pound" and "ball control" offenses don't have to go hand-in-hand. You can control the ball (which is a more accurate description of what we should do) by running the ball downhill, and giving your QB high percentage short/intermediate passes to hit on a regular basis. You don't have to line up 3 TE's and a FB and run power left/power right all the time.

The reason we've had to rely on the big play these past few years is because our execution in the run game and the short/intermediate passing game wasn't consistent enough to sustain drives and stay on the field at a high clip, like other offenses do against our defense. If we can fix that, with the weapons we have, then dominating 3rd down % and TOP shouldn't be an issue...which not only puts our offense on the field longer and the opposing D on the field longer...but it keeps the opposing offense and our own sh1tty D off the field as much as possible.

I think this is missing something.

If we have a true frosh starter at QB this year come opening day and that kid is an unprepared turnover bum than it is a MASSIVE failure on behalf of this corching staff.

Cane we blame them for Ryan Williams blowing out his knee?

I agree that Coley needs more seasoning and to improve but can't really blame him for much else.

No we don't blame them for Ryan Williams' injury...We blame them for not having anything behind him on the depth chart that isn't a greenhorn freshman that has never taken a real game snap.

Thompson and Dewey came in with Crow and dropped football due to injury.

And? The coaching staff still schit the bed with our QB situation. Guys dropped, got hurt, played baseball who cares?

The fact of the matter remains that the people that are getting paid millions to make sure we have a functional QB taking snaps have failed in that regard.

Again, how can you say that when we have no idea what Olsen will look like with the lights on? People IMO are reading wayyy too much into that bizarre Spring Game

Qb situation reminds me of the late 90's and early 2000 that Butch had us in.
Guys left, got hurt, left to play baseball, relying on true freshmans.

It was just a very unusual format and seemingly one that didn't really help a QB get into a rhythm.

I'm stating facts. You appear to be getting emotional about it.

2011 - Jacory and Morris - Williams brought in
2012 - Morris Williams - Crow, Dewey, Thompson brought in
2013 - Morris Williams Crow, Dewey - Thompson, injury out, Olsen brought in
2014 - Crow, Olsen - Williams hurt in spring, Dewey injury out, Kaaya, Rosier brought in

What would your plan have been?
