Coaching Records v. AP Top 25

Moping about mopes. Lol what does this thread tell us that we didn't already know? Nothing at all. I can only hope Golden improves that. It's ridiculous really. U have to play above your talent level at least once...don't you?

Gotta love it

why do people use "ranked at the time"?

you'd much rather go on a 2 game sample than a 12 game sample? I get it, injuries happen, but studies show pollsters get it horribly wrong at the beginning of the year. let the season show.

David Shaw's is really impressive. Was Andrew Luck his QB his first year as HC? I can't recall.

I am not knocking Shaw as I do think he is a good coach, but sometimes you are put in a good situation to begin with; how many of the other coaches took over a team that was that loaded? I wonder what Coker's record was against Top 25 teams over his first 3 years as coach?

Decided to stop being lazy and do my own research:

2001: 5-0
2002: 4-1
2003: 4-2

So after 3 years Coker was 13-3. Actually pretty comparable to Shaw (again, I'm not saying that Shaw is bad or that Stanford was/is as loaded as Miami was)

Continuing...

2004: 4-1
2005: 2-2

and when the wheels finally came off...

2006: 1-5

Overall Top 25 Record: 20-11

If anything, this shows again that like most stats, they aren't definitive on their own. I think a lot of people were at least wary of Coker after the Peach Bowl fiasco in 2005 and his record against Top 25 after that game was 19-6.
