Jobs vs Opportunities.

Most HC gigs are opportunities, SEC gigs are JOBS. Set up for failure being that you’re not gonna out-talent UGA & Bama, you’ll never get over the hump but you’re getting what? At least $20M guaranteed to sign up for the ****storm?
That's a very good description.

It simply comes down to how confident you are in your ability as a Coach to possibly win in a difficult situation with odds stacked against you, vs how bad of a job you could do & how will it affect your ability to get another P5 job.

Some guys get the big P5 job, fail miserably & never get that chance again. Signing up for a SEC West job in the Saban era is tantamount to deliberately driving into a brick wall for your career.

Sure you'll get paid handsomely, but sometimes it's not always worth it in the end.

I mean they are still opportunities. Especially with expanded playoffs. There are tons of examples of these coaches being successful at the smaller / less-resourced programs.

Dan Mullen at Miss State, Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss, Eli Drinkwitz at Mizzou, Mark Stoops at Kentucky, Gus Malzahn at Auburn, even Bobby Petrino at Arkansas.

You can make the argument that a lot of those success stories were short-lived but you can get to 10 wins at these programs. And with the expanded playoff, 10 wins probably gets you a playoff spot and who knows what happens there.

So definitely still opportunities.
