And Lane Kiffen said in an interview after the National Championship that there was ZERO chance Tua wasn't going to transfer away after that game.
But he ended up coming in at half and winning the national championiship for Bama, so alas he's probably earned himself the starting QB job (and now it'll be Hurts that likely eventually transfers)..
That an important point, Tua went to Bama and yeah that speaks to his competitive nature, but once he actually realized he wouldn't be the guy for like 2 more years, he wanted out. Thats how just about ALL Qbs are these days.
Do you really think Nkosi Perry, Cade Weldon, and Jarren Williams are all going to be on this roster the next 3 yrs? I think theres an incredibly slim chance that happens. Thats why we can't rest on the fact we have 3 frosh QBs this yr. We need to continue landing studs at the position.

Now with Johnson Jr, I actually almost think its better for us that he isn't exactly developed as a passer, because it will mean he's less likely to transfer out. A guy like Mertz is coming in to college ready to play as a freshman (IF he can handle the playbook and ****). Johnson Jr wont be ready to be the starter day 1. He's got too much to improve on from the passing perspective. So it would actually be great to get him because we can teach him for 2 yrs to be the best passer he can be, and he's already the best athlete will might ever have at the position. His potential is pretty ******* high, but we need him to stick around for 2 yrs without transferring out......and to commit and stick in the first place.

LOL. I went back and read to the end and yes you are correct, that had NOTHING to do with my actual comment! LOL Good stuff though.
 
I thought I saw on this board that the dad wasn't expecting to be at Oregon long term, if that's the case then it really doesn't matter he is there now.

I kid, but it was funny as **** to see some of their fans saying they flipped him.

QB's do tend to stay commited more so than any other position.

For those that don't think the kid will cross coast to come all the way to Miami, you don't know your history about our program. We have historically and successfully brought Qb's from the west coast; just to name a few... Ken Dorsey, Kyle Wright, Brad Kaaya, and Gino Torretta.

For those that think we don't have a chance because of Johnson's family ties to another school, just remember, they said the same thing about Case Weldon and Bradley Jennings. Their pops went to our rival, F$U. People also said the same thing about Will Mallory last season.

I know, none of the above mentioned situations included players that had fathers on the coaching staff of the local school. I personally think this works in our favor regarding Johnson. Most kids want to have a real college experience. It's one thing to remain in the same city as your parents, like what we have when our local talent stays home. It's a completely different animal when the parent is on campus, at practice, on the field, on away trips, conducting routine dorm checks, etc....

Many kids in his situation decide to go to schools opposite of where the father is currently coaching, and as I've pointed out, for good reason.

Considering the above mentioned, along with Jon Richt being the lead recruiter, I really like our chances with this kid.

The obvious unknown here is the relationship with the father.
I always try to look at this type of situation from our perspective...that is to say what if he was a local kid with a father on the UM coaching staff. What would we expect then?
I will say this...if he wanted to be with his dad I would think he would have committed to that school by now.
We shall see
