Highlights Coach Soldinger (still alive)

Sort of. That's the basic gist to what went on. More detail oriented it wasn't someone else coming in. It was Donna shalalalalalalalalala had Barry Alvarez come in as soon as she was hired and tour the campus, tour the facilities and meet the team. We all knew he was handpicked by her to come in and take over the program. So it wasn't the fact SOMEONE else was coming in. It was Barry Alvarez specifically and his system coming in, we didn't want ****** things up. So faced with that alternative we went to Paul Dee and said we wanted Larry Coker and no one else.
Thanks for the more detailed explanation. I was just trying to add some context to the comment that Coker should never have been hired. From your own recollections on here, I was aware you were there at the time and could expound on the situation.

Out of curiosity, if some other coach besides Alvarez was considered, would y’all have been OK with that?

Exactly.

Whether Shalala had a pre-existing relationship with Alvarez or not, he was not the right coach for Miami. At any point.

Exactly. It's not a knock on Barry Alvarez. He was a **** good coach. But he's not what we needed here. Not then or at any other point. That's just forcing a square peg into a round hole.

Yeah. People seem to think we were some kind of tyrants. Wasn't on us at the end of the day but we knew what we had so we spoke up. For the right coach we wouldn't have said ****. That just wasn't him.

what a ****** place to find yourself. bad leadership and direction and negligence from paul dee and others above him. the program should never had been put in that dilemma.
