Coach Fisch on Duke Johnson:

If he comes in a provides the threat of a big play I'm cool with that. If Mike James can do his best James Jackson impersonation and Duke can do his best Portis off the bench impersonation...yeah the team might be able to surprise some folk.

He's going to have the ball a lot from go. He is our best offensive player, the day he steps on the field.
this is just dumb

and counting special teams hes probably gonna average about a dozen touches a game unless there are injuries

Not sure if you've seen the kid play but 3FW might actually be right. While it's pretty crazy to call a guy who's never played a down our best offensive player, look at who he's being compared to.

Morris
James
Hurns
Dorsett
Scott
Thompkins
Clements
Crawford
Walford
Cleveland
Perry
etc etc

There's no preseason all All-ACC guys who aren't named Brandon Linder.

he probably has the highest ceiling of anyone on the offense but to expect him to be the best right now is unrealistic and unfair

The kid is 5'9 and currently is a solid 185lbs, he is not undersized. He's never going to be the work horse. You use him much like USC did with Reggie Bush. In the slot, out of the back field, let him touch the ball 10-15 times, find the mismatches.

+1

People don't talk about Duke's receiving ability, but he is special there. During the summer camp circuit he routinely made circus catches and smoked anyone in front of him. Too quick. Made a phenomenal catch in the state title game, too.

I'm not worried about Duke's size. When it comes to game speed, he just understands how to avoid contact. That's instinct. He's gonna be special.

Even amongst all of those great runs that play jumped off the tape to me. He went up in traffic and came down with the ball in impressive fashion. We can definitely utilize his receiving ability in our game plan.

It sounds like they are already working on this same type of idea with Dallas Crawford, too.

something from him is better than nothing, but too many have given him a crown he hasn't earned yet

He's 3 and done. Just get him the **** ball NOW NOW NOW. Pay your lumps with the learning curve to expedite his progress. I don't care if we turn the ball over or lose an extra game or two in the short term. Get this kid ready to carry the team in 2013 and 2014.

my only knock on Duke would probably be his size.. I seen dude get rocked a few times in high school games...

Also, who on this team is getting 12 touches a game? How many touches would Portis and Gore have gotten if they were freshman this year?

If we are drafting a team, I'm taking Duke Johnson over any RB, WR, or TE on our roster.

I would as well. Dont know if that makes him our best guy right now though

I saw Duke this morning and stand by my statement that he's undersized. So I'm clear, this isn't a knock on him ... merely a suggestion that we temper our enthusiasm about what we believe he'll provide us this year.

When due played against watkins in high school he was the best player on the field.........I'm not like dannyboy who said he will be a heisman candidate his first year.....but he can be special and put up big numbers year one......return game.....throw to him out of the backfield and situational running

any inside info you can give us about any coaching changes or anything regarding the team since you're so good with that?

I've been saying this. I know some say he is 195 lbs or whatever but I just don't believe it. if he is it is not good weight. he looks slight in pics

I don't think he's 195. If I had to guess, 180-185. He's 5'9", max 5'10" ... he may never be a 200 pound back. And I'm not looking for him to be one either. But his body composition has to improve. And it will once he hits the training program w/ Swasey and company.

yeah hes stellar

according to him our senior transfer punter still has 2 years left

lol

You can't accurately weight the Duke!

When he takes the handoff, he has a quick twitch, but the moment he hits overdrive, he leaves 7-8 pounds behind the line of scrimmage.
