Coach Doritos moving to the booth in 2013

Seriously?

I like it. I think that's where any DC belongs. The guy needs the view from the box, not field level.

Great news if true. This is a step in the right direction but im still weary of his coaching skills.

The reason a coordinator is on the field and not in the booth is he feels he doesn't have experienced kids and/or lacks veteran leadership. The fact that he's moving up to the booth tells me Golden and D'Onofrio have a lot of confidence with the leadership and the understanding demonstrated by the players.

As I've said before, you call plays based on tendency, down and distance. Adjustments are made on the fly and they're made by the players. Formations shift and players go in motion. Your Mike and your free safety have to make the right calls and everybody has to be on the same page and it is done real time. Communicate, communicate, communicate.

Agreed.. It's also pretty nice having AG down there knowing this D just as well (or better) as the DC. Best of both worlds IYAM.

Being in the booth made Shannon look like he knew what he was doing as a D-Co....couldn't hurt much.

Miami had a veteran team in 2011. Lots of experienced returning people. Ohnofrio just doesn't have confidence in his players cuz he didnt know them well enough which is an indictment on him. That's one of the reasons he played so many guys last year and also the Maryland game last year. Not knowing your players and then just throwing guys out to see what they can do is a negative indictment on you as a coach.

Then you have coaches who are on the sidlines cuz they think they are better than that

IMO, the only way this can work is if you have experienced leaders on your unit... With that said, I agree with Coach D moving to the press box because 1) we are using the same defensive philosophy, 2) everyone is a year old and 3) we have leaders on defense such as Green, Chick and Perryman to make sure that players stay focused and are in the right place.

Coincidentally, Jim Haslett (the Redskins DC) moved to the box for the first time in his career. He cited that he wanted to go to the box to get "a different perspective" of the game. He also said that he wanted to get a better look at what the offense is calling, so that he can make better defensive calls. This is a big deal around here because Haslett is known for not changing or altering his play-calling and is very bull-headed. I'm interested in seeing if this move works out for my Redskins.
