Kirby announced Schumann and Muschamp as CO-DCs starting next year once Lanning leaves for Oregon.

Don't know if they increased his salary, but $1.5 Million and sole autonomy of the defense here might be intriguing.

People are out of their minds. Would you rather have somewhat younger guys who will be Coordinators soon and eventually HCs in the NFL or CFB retreads? Give me a Greg Schiano as the DC or Chuck Pagano back in the day over some retread. I have faith in Mario to make the right calls.

Huh? As people have said numerous times in this thread:

(1) We may hire a coach for a job he's never performed before. We have no idea how he'll perform. He could be great. He could also suck. He's a huge unknown.

(2) But we do know, on average, how first-time OCs and first-time DCs generally fare, and the data is not great. Only a small percentage of OCs and DCs become very good/elite. The vast majority of first-time OCs/DCs are pretty average/fail. Statistically speaking, Hurtt is more likely to be average/bad than he is to be very good/elite.

Do these qualify as reasons?

and got progressively worse since year 1 that he was there.
 
Best case is always someone seasoned. But it seems like CFB coaches and coordinators are younger and younger. There is just seemingly more movement (upward and lateral) than there ever has been. The likelihood of a first time coordinator is seemingly more likely in this day and age than ever.

It really is. I think LSU just hired a young dude from the NFL to coach the Defense and they have a top 3 assistant pool. A year ago, Ed O hired two first-time play-callers from the NFL to fill LSU's open OC and DC jobs. It's definitely a trend.

Clemson has a ****load of money to hire coordinators and they just promoted a bunch of position coaches instead of securing a seasoned vet.

Maybe our expectations are too high.
