Classic comment this morning from Jimmy C

It’s funny how little football people know on this site.

Just to put it simply for everyone, here goes.

For Manny‘s defense to work he has to have the right kind of players. Really good ends/D-lineman that can get upfield really quickly, and linebackers that can cover for the mistakes/gaps that this leaves. It’s all about disruption, causing turnovers, and getting the offense off balance.

He had that in 2017 and he did not have that the last couple of years especially this last year. If your linebackers are below average in a Manny Diaz coached defense, you're truly fūcked. It wasn’t that complicated. Compare our line and their performance from 2017 and even 2018 to this year. And then compare our linebackers from 2017 and 2018 to what we have this year.

Again, it’s not that complicated.

It all depends what kind of personnel he has at Penn State. If he has the right personnel he’ll make a splash up there.
Mannys scheme will never be consistent or even really good. There's too many flaws to the scheme and playing with no discipline fundamentally goes against everything most dc's believe in. Did he have some decent to pretty good years ? Yes , but there's a reason he's been fired at his two biggest jobs. A flawed scheme that's been exposed at most of his stops.

It’s only a Cuban if it also has ham and Swiss cheese, and the pork has to be mojo pork. Only on Cuban bread of course, if it’s on that eggroll sub type bread, then it’s a media noche.

Any 305 guy can tell you that, you don’t have to be Cuban to know this. I mean pretty much anybody in the 305, even the 954, it’s not just the guys from Westchester, Hialeah, and Kendall that know this.

Ham is pork lol. But on a serious note the pulled pork "cubans" is where its at.

Hat tip from those of us in the 386, 352, 904 and 850.

We **** sure didn't know the difference between our noches and our mojos.

By the way, what do y'all call a ham sandwich with two slices of American cheese, a scoop of mayo and squirt of mustard between two pieces of Wonder Bread?

Because we call that a quality sandwich up here. 😋

He owns 3 of the worst defensive performances in school history at 2 different national championship programs. One at Texas two at Miami. He’s not a p5 coordinator unless he makes massive tweaks to his fundamentally flawed scheme. My guess is he won’t and he will be in g5 by 2024

That sounds like a really shltty sandwich to me. That’s like eating mayo on white bread. I’ll bet you use that peeled off cellophane cheese food product that some people call cheese.

My bad.

Good to know we agree Diaz pretty much sucked at Miami and he'll succeed at State Penn if and only if he inherits players with the talent and acumen to do exactly what he needs them to do.

Again, not defending Manny.

Just stating facts.

if he has really top-notch Dlineman and linebackers even with some of the schematic disadvantages that he puts himself in running that type of defense, he can make it work. 2017 and 2018 bear that out.

The problem is, it’s impossible unless you have consistent high-level recruiting to not get exposed in that kind of defense.

I don’t know what the personnel will be like for Penn State next year, I have no idea what kind of quality defensive linemen and linebackers they are going to have. If they’re really good, he might make a splash first year, that was my point.

But once his really shltty recruiting kicks in, he’s fūcked unless he tries to fundamentally change some of the holes in his concepts.

So correct. But like at UM, the scheme may look good for 1-2 seasons, but once Manny’s poor recruiting takes hold, he will slowly but surely fail.
Manny’s only hope for sustained success is if he is not asked to evaluate or recruit at all
If Manny isn't asked to evaluate or recruit and the rest of the staff can get him the proper ingredients as per @OriginalCanesCanesCanes post then he could be consistently successful but that's the only way imo.

Agreed. He needs to coach at a school with a big enough budget that he can be a one trick pony because the school has enough money to let others do half his job. I don’t know if PSU is that school. Bama would be but I’m not sure Saban wants him after the game this year.

Welp, they don’t have to play Wisconsin next year.

However, they do have to play Michigan, Ohio State, and Perdue, among others.

Diaz will Be exposed early. Wolverines will feast on his Blitz Package From the Julia Tuttle Causeway.

Manny's best move now ( If history proves correct) is to get an EARLY START on finding his NEXT coaching opportunity.

It's only a matter of time
