So I just caught the tail end of ex Dolphin and Penn State Player Jimmy Cefalo. I have met him many times he is a great guy and long time S Fla resident. So on his radio show this morning. I heard him to refer to Miami as “finally Miami picks the right Cuban and we pick the wrong Cuban go figure”. Very funny🙌

I never watch penn state games. But I will be glued to the tv watching manny send blitzes from Philadelphia as their DC. It’s much watch tv moving forward for me. The guy is terrible. Have no idea how he had as much success as he did in 17 and 18. Complete mirage imo
I think he can recreate some of that success in year 1/2 in penn state as long as they have a better defensive roster than us. Leave him in charge for a couple years though and he'll be exposed again.

I just don’t see it. Wisconsin smash mouth football will expose him like it has 2 separate times. Let’s not even think about what Ryan day will do that defense 🤣

I simply don’t see his style translating well to big 10 unless he starts fresh and takes a good look in the mirror and say my defense sucks right now it needs to change

It’s funny how little football people know on this site.

Just to put it simply for everyone, here goes.

For Manny‘s defense to work he has to have the right kind of players. Really good ends/D-lineman that can get upfield really quickly, and linebackers that can cover for the mistakes/gaps that this leaves. It’s all about disruption, causing turnovers, and getting the offense off balance.

He had that in 2017 and he did not have that the last couple of years especially this last year. If your linebackers are below average in a Manny Diaz coached defense, you're truly fūcked. It wasn’t that complicated. Compare our line and their performance from 2017 and even 2018 to this year. And then compare our linebackers from 2017 and 2018 to what we have this year.

Again, it’s not that complicated.

It all depends what kind of personnel he has at Penn State. If he has the right personnel he’ll make a splash up there.

I have the same thought, however, the competition will be much better this go round. I’ll definitely be paying attention

So correct. But like at UM, the scheme may look good for 1-2 seasons, but once Manny’s poor recruiting takes hold, he will slowly but surely fail.
Manny’s only hope for sustained success is if he is not asked to evaluate or recruit at all

B1G OC and running offenses are going to touch Manuela in very uncomfortable places.

Basically what I was about to say. LOL at Manny calling Pedo St "LBU", when he left with Ryan Ragone (nothing against the kid) as our best linebacker after Manny being in full charge of defensive talent procurement for 6 years and inheriting a MUCH stronger room from Al Freeking Goldon and Mark Onofrio the day he walked in the door.

His defensive philosophy is go-go-go and pray that talent makes up for the openings his scheme leaves.

I’ve always thought if you had NFL quality or just really really good college quality d-linemen, with above average linebackers, you can pull off that type of defense. Look what happened to the quality of our players in those positions over time. You already know the quality we had on the line and linebackers in 2017 and 2018, and look at what we had the last couple of years.

If Manny could’ve transplanted the 2017 starting defensive lineman and linebackers to this season, he may have only lost one game and that would’ve been Alabama.

In the end, one of the big things that killed Manny, was his absolutely shltty recruiting for lineman and linebackers. Not saying that was his only deficit, there were others which I just don’t even want to get into here, but that was one of the most glaring ones which also had a direct impact on defensive performance.

There was nothing worse than the delayed blitz. It never worked and ended up taking players completely out of the play. They weren't in coverage and they had zero pressure on the QB. Freakin stupid!

One of my best flying buddies is a Penn State grad. He retired as the Professor of Aerospace Studies there, too. I asked him how can Franklin hire Diaz? He is absolutely ****ed.
