Class of 2018: updated as of 11/12/19

I think we will sign another full class of 25-26 kids in 2018.

Richt mentioned that we should have 41 on offense, 41 on defense and 2-3 for specials.

We currently have 77 players on Scholarship for 2017.
-36 on Offense and 38 on Defense and 3 Special teams.

So we start with 8 scholarships.

Seniors (10):
O: 5 (Berios, Herndon, McDermott, Darling, Linder)
D: 3 (Moten, Thomas, Harris, Delaney)
S: 1 (Badgley)

This will give us 10 more scholarships for 2018.
10+8=18

Redshirt Seniors (11): (Asked to move on if they can't contribute or may transfer to start somewhere else)
O: 5 (Rosier, Gray, Harris, Langham, Jones)
D: 6 (Willis, Jackson, Owens, Smith, McCray, Mayes)

My guess is we will lose at least 5-6 of these guys.
18+5=23

Early NFL Entry: (guys who may be good or dumb enough to declare if they have a good season)
O: 1 (Walton, Cager)
D: 2 (McIntosh, Norton, Willis, Dean)

With our luck we will lose 3 guys...
23+3=26

Attrition: (Guys who get passed up or get messed up)
Jeff James 4/23/17
Jack Allison 4/25/17
Jovani Haskins 6/13/17
Terrance Henley 7/5/17

Some of the guys mentioned above will be a part of the attrition for sure as they may not see a future at the U or get in trouble before they graduate. But we will most likely have another 2-3 underclassmen in addition to the players above who get kicked off the team or leave for various reason.

26+2=28 Total spots available for STORM18:

We need:
1 QB: Sitkowski (Should pick up at least one solid QB every class) - DONE
2 RB: Lingard, Davis (Will need 2-3 RBs in the class) - DONE
4 WR: Wiggins, Hightower, Pope (should pick up 3-4) - 1 More
2 TE: Jordan, Mallory (will need 2 in this class) - DONE
4 OL: Scaife, Reed, Campbell (Will need 4-5 to replace the graduating seniors)

3 DT: Silvera (Will need at least 3 depending on who leaves)
2 DE: Rousseau (Stacked but should pick up 2 more to replace Thomas & Trent)
2 LB: None (Should pick up at least 2 in every class, can replace based on attrition)
4 CB: Frierson, Ivey, Blades (Stack up with such a strong class)
2 S: Hall, Jobe (2 Elite Safties) - DONE

1 K: Baxa (Need to replace Badgley) - DONE

Total: 27 (13 Off, 13 Def, 1 ST)

Attrition since last season:
10/10/16 - Sam Bruce kicked off team (Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C.)
11/23/16 - Hunter Knighton transfers (Tulane)
12/16/16 - Brendan Loftus transfers (Samford)
1/2/17 - Brad Kaya enters the NFL Draft (6th round 215th Pick, Lions)
1/3/17 - David Njoku enters the NFL draft (1st Round, 29th pick, Browns)
1/3/17 - Joseph Yearby enters the NFL Draft (Undrafted Free Agent)
1/24/17 - Gus Edwards transfers(Rutgers)
2/3/17 - Courtel Jenkins transfers (Houston)
2/20/17 - Cedrick Wright to transfer ()
4/23/17 - Jeff James transfers (Copiah-Lincoln Community College)
4/25/17 - Jack Allison transfers (UWV)
5/23/17 - Sunny Odogwu transfers (UCLA)
6/13/17 - Jovani Haskins leaves team ()
7/5/17 - Terrance Henley leaves team ()
7/13/17 - Gerald Willis take leave of absence

We should be able to sign up to 33 players (minus any transfers in) if we can make enough room on the 85 man roster. My guess is still between 25-27 due to the small number of graduating seniors (10). We will need to lose a player with eligibility for every player we sign from this point on.

We have 11 Redshirt Juniors that will be asked to move on if they graduate and can't contribute or may transfer to get more playing time after this year:
O: 5 (Rosier, Gray, Harris, Langham, Jones)
D: 6 (Willis, Jackson, Owens, Smith, McCray, Mayes)

There are currently 23 players who are scheduled to graduate after the 2018 season, many will be gone before then but I would expect full classes for the next 2 classes.

2018 25 + 8 = 33 possible signees with 8 EE counting towards 2017.
2017 25 new players with 10 EE of which 8 counted for 2016 leaving open 8.
2016 22 new players with 5 EE of which 5 counted towards 2015 leaving open 8.

2015 22 new players with 5 EE of which 4 counted towards 2014 leaving open 7 spots
2014 27 new players with 6 EE counting towards 2013 leaving 4 open spots
2013 17 new players with 2 EE but no room from previous class leaving 8 open spots for 2014
2012 32 new players with 7 EE counting towards 2011
2011 19 new players

Breaking: OT Campbell Commits to Miami

"It's all about The U," Campbell told InsideTheU over the weekend. "I knew Miami was going to be the pick the first time I went there. It just felt different than all of the other schools."

Campbell Ready to Recruit For Miami

"I have been talking a lot with [Montgomery (Ala.) Park Crossing three-star offensive tackle Tank Jenkins]," Campbell said. "Same with [Kissimmee Gateway three-star defensive tackle Dennis Briggs]."

Campbell, who is listed as the nation's No. 34 offensive tackle on the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, spent time at Miami last month with Briggs. The two appear to be friends.

"I talk to Dennis everyday. He's coming to Miami. I would say it's like a 99.9 percent chance that he's coming."

Clay James (247 | offer | Rubio LS | hudl | Twitter) Preferred Walk-on

Hurricanes Offer Long Snapper Walk-On Spot

Miami might have found its long snapper of the future.

Cocoa's Clay James picked up a preferred walk-on spot from the Hurricanes on Sunday after working out for special teams coordinator Todd Hartley.

"I got the offer I wanted," James said over the phone.

"What [Coach Hartley] basically told me is that they have a 2019 scholarship, and if I was a 2019 guy, I would have got a full ride, but he said that I can come in as a member of the 2018 class and be a preferred walk-on. So I would pay for the first semester and then when [current Miami long snapper Jordan Butler] graduates in December I would have his spot in January or later in the summer if he takes longer for some reason."

It might be asking a lot for James to pay some tuition up front, but the nation's No. 19 ranked long snapper per Rubio Long Snapping says that he is more than interested in the Hurricanes.

"Definitely," he said when asked if he's going to consider Miami moving forward. "As soon as we work out the financial situation there, I'm probably going to commit to Miami and be done with recruiting."

6/11/17 Offered preferred walk-on
7/13/14 Commits!

Don't expect too much recruiting activity for 2018 class once camp starts in August. Decommitments have come around October the past couple of years for obvious reasons. Recruiting will pick up again in November.

SQUAD17:
From this point on until NSD we had 5 decommitments although most would argue that the staff only tried to keep 2 of those.

SWAG16:
We had a ton of decommitments from this point on until NSD in 2016. Much of it was due to the turnover in staff. Richt was able to get back 2 of the most important decommits in Richards and McCloud. Tyler Byrd was really the only other decommitment that was of any significance.

In the past couple of recruiting cycles, Richt has shown me 2 things:
1. His ability to hold on to the verbal commitments that he wants. We will lose a couple for various reasons but we should be able to hold on to the majority of this class.

2. His ability to replace key decommitments with equal or better players. 2016: Byrd (Colbert), Williams (Harris). 2017: Edwards (Delaney), Henderson (Dean).

I think we will sign another full class of 25-26 kids in 2018.

Richt mentioned that we should have 41 on offense, 41 on defense and 2-3 for specials.

We currently have 76 players on Scholarship for 2017.
-36 on Offense and 37 on Defense and 3 Special teams.

So we start with 8 scholarships.

Seniors (10):
O: 5 (Berios, Herndon, McDermott, Darling, Linder)
D: 3 (Moten, Thomas, Harris, Delaney)
S: 1 (Badgley)

1/24/17 - Gus Edwards transfers(Rutgers)
2/3/17 - Courtel Jenkins transfers (Houston)
5/23/17 - Sunny Odogwu transfers (UCLA)

This will give us 10 more scholarships for 2018.
10+8=18

Redshirt Seniors (10): (Asked to move on if they can't contribute or may transfer to start somewhere else)
O: 5 (Rosier, Gray, Harris, Langham, Jones)
D: 5 (Willis, Jackson, Owens, Smith, McCray)

7/13/17 - Gerald Willis take leave of absence
7/27/17 - Ryan Mayes leaves team ()

My guess is we will lose at least 5-6 of these guys.
18+5=23

Early NFL Entry: (guys who may be good or dumb enough to declare if they have a good season)
O: 1 (Walton, Cager)
D: 2 (McIntosh, Norton, Dean)

Scout ranks Al Blades and Daquris Wiggins in top 25 (most likely mistake since they were not ranked in the top 300 prior)

08/03/16 Rodney Scott Decommits (3 Star)

Recruiting should be slow after August now that the season is starting. We had no commits or decommits from late August until late October in the past 2 years. It looks the same this year with most of the class already committed. But I love where our class stands relative to the past 2 years.

Miami DT Commit Silvera Will Play in Army Bowl
The American Heritage standout becomes the fifth Miami commit to accept an invitation to the game.

Miami Top247 defensive tackle commit Nesta Silvera has flipped his all-star game commitment from the Under Armour All-American Game to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

The Fort Lauderdale American Heritage standout tweeted the news on Monday just two days after he announced via Twitter that he had shut down his recruitment and is no longer planning to take previously scheduled official visits to Florida or Ohio State.

Silvera (6-2, 308) becomes the fifth Miami to accept an invitation to play in the Army Bowl joining running back Lorenzo Lingard, wide receiver Mark Pope, safety Josh Jobe and wide receiver Brian Hightower.
