Class Impact: Romello Brinson to Miami, Part Two

If somehow they can get Alexis, Smith, and Yulkeith to want in, take all ******* 5 of these WR/Slot kids and let’s ride. Find room elsewhere. The 2 we have committed plus the 3 who seem to be at the top of the board are all MUST takes if you can get them.
I agree with this. Just don’t know if UM coaches do. I posted somewhere else that we should have all 6 CB’s back for the 2021 season. So, *maybe* we only take one CB for this class which opens up a spot for another WR.

Coaches look at positional groupings in 2 year windows. You always pair your current class with the one before it and the one after it when looking at numbers. So what screws us up at WR is 2019, when we only took 1.

So for the 2019/2020 block, we only took 5 WRs. That's not enough. So for 2020/2021, that number needs to be 7, possibly 8. Meaning since we took 4 in 2020, you need to find out a way to take 4 in 2021.

At CB, we took 2 in 2019, and we took 4 in 2020. That's a total of 6 for the 2019/2020 block. That's a pretty good number, so for 2020/2021...you need to take 2 in 2021. Not sure how you can really get away with just taking 1. MAYBE...just because there hasn't been a ton of attrition at that spot. But only taking 1 in 2021 means you probably have to take AT LEAST 4 in 2022, most likely 5.

Plenty of ways to skin this cat, but I really believe with only having taking Payton in 2019, if Alexis, Smith, and Brown all really want in, you figure out a way to take them all. You can't turn any of those 3 kids away, and you're certainly not dropping George or Brinson, obviously. So we'll see how it shakes out. Obviously all hypothetical, none of those 3 aforementioned kids are banging the door down at the moment. But if they do, you have to get them in this class. They're all too dynamic and with Lashlee running this show now, you need as many kids like this as you can possibly get.

Great post. I agree with everything you said. I was basing my post off of how many kids we will be able to take in the ‘21 class. We can’t take more than 24, correct?

Slowly but surely were starting to upgrade talent around here. If Lashlee is as advertised kids will be lining up to come here. Bags no bags won’t matter.

Did you mean Safety, not CB?

Did you mean Safety, not CB?

No, I meant CB but idk what I was thinking when I re-read what I wrote. I meant to say we took two in 2019 and 2 in 2020. Not sure why I said 4. Probably adding them together, but regardless, I’m dumb.

So it makes it even more imperative we take at least 2-3 in 2021.

I still believe if those 5 WR/slot/ATH want in, you figure out how to take them, but you can’t sacrifice CB in order to do so. We need to take multiple corners in this class.

Okay I follow what you meant.

And I agree, I think we'll take 4 WR's this class with one of them basically being used as a Hybrid Slot-back/RB & we'll end up with 3 CB's.

We don’t have enough room to take 5 WR’s dude. Don’t even think we enough room for 4. Our WR class will be- George, Brinson and one of Yulkeith Brown and Brashard Smith. We all want Alexis I just don’t think he’s realistic as of right now. If either Wiggins or Pope declare for the draft after the 2020 season (I’d be stunned), then we take 4 WR’s.

A few weeks ago, Bud and Barton on their new podcast (its pretty good with macro recruiting takes) outlined the biggest trend in recruiting right now and said at this point in the cycle, there is well over double the number of commitments to programs right now from the previous year...something like 300-something at this time a year ago to well over 800 at press time. This is a unique year that they also predict will see a lot of late flips IF we get to a point where the NCAA allows visits, etc. and that it'll be doubly unique with the differentiation around the country with the rules and regulations of opening up in phases. All of this is stated with the idea that when the second wave comes, we won't have massive shutdowns, etc.

tl;dr -- when November comes around, its first come, first serve.

To expand, I do not think you're going to see some pristine number of ideal slots filled with qualified recruits. Once November comes around, you're going to see schools take the players they know are coming and you'll see very little room after the November signing day. So, idk, man. You could see Miami with a 5 WR (and I don't count Brown and Smith as pure WR prospects...Brown is an ATH and Smith is a RB/WR) and 2 CB class if they all want in and make it happen earlier than others. Its a weird year...and it makes even more sense with the recent wink wink that Willie Moise might be back in the mix for a 2021 spot (hope Im not overstating things...just sayin). Might be a situation of "Moise still wants in? Will he wait for 2021? Yes? Ok, guess we're done with OL recruiting...on to the next position group." and I think we'll see that trend throughout the rest of the process, especially if OC's numbers are pretty accurate and we're limited with what we've got left.

Getting Brinson was huge. Brinson is a very special player. I agree with Adams that Brinson has First Team ACC and NFL talent written all over him, but he has to put in the work once he gets on campus.

I saw Brinson play live several times during the past two seasons, and he is the real deal for sure. Brinson makes plays when his team needs it. It is great to see a lot of high caliber local recruits we really want are finally staying home. But the Canes have to win to keep them.

The Canes are recruiting the right kind of talent to make several serious Championship runs, but the coaches have to create the culture and scheme to make winning happen.

Someone who knows S Fla High school football please expa,in whether the young men we are discussing are at or near the top of best for 2021; Franklin, Brinson, Brantley, and the others being discussed like Brown and Alexis.
I’m asking because from reading these posts it certainly reads as though UM is getting the best out of S Fla, but I can’t tell if that’s irrational love for the Canes or rational evaluation. and how does the class of 2021 compare in skill players to recent S Fla classes?

The elite of the elite in S FLa: James Williams, Jason Marshall, Leonard Taylor, and Jacorey Brooks. I would say out of all of them Leonard Taylor is the one we have the best shot at getting.

The guys UM have been getting I would say are elite in their own way. A lot of them are less physically developed compared to the elite of the elite, but have a high floor due to the tools they have, some examples Brinson, George, Hammett, Johnson, Collins, Brantley, Haye, and Burns.

IMO, commits like Seymore, Rodriguez, and Franklin are elite. Those guys are the best at their positions in S Fla.

LCE... I still remember that drive Jacory led in the last game at the OB when he was in high school against Deerfield. I think it was 99 yards, certainly 90 plus. I really thought it was the appropriate end of the OB after the disgrace that was Virginia.

The sad part is, people still don't realize how good j70 was, if he had ended up in the same situation as dorsey, we would've kilt ohigho fake and j70 would have the TD record for sure. Just had the worst coaches and o-lines to play behind during his time. One of coach shannon's biggest mistakes was going with Marve in that gaytor game, j70 proved what he was about on that audible to kayne Farquhson from our own goal line, that's Dade County football, when a **** think they got us backed up and got the advantage, ***** that and you, we going deep or coming out even more aggressive, ***** a safety, that's only 2 points anyway, SO WHAT!

Its **** like that that I'm looking to see if rhett is the real deal or not, coach diaz showed his heart when we played clemson and showed to much cowardtry running all that zone when we been playing man primarily all year, why you switching up and letting renfrow run free all game, GTFOH with that hoe *** ****. And than he brings in a d-co who he has to hold his hand, but we gone see if there is ever football again where Rhett's heart is at, and it don't count against lower competition!

if Pope and Wiggins explode this year under Lashlee offense, expect both to bounce to the NFL : upholding the UM tradition of Juniors leaving when they should stay for senior year :

Would love to get
Brinson
George
Alexis or Smith
Brown (Ath)

Liberty or others who get to see these guys live:

How would you rank them 1-5?
