Class Impact: Justin Hodges to Miami

yup me too, but as a number 2 or 3 corner in this class and that length the tape pops...Also the back flip and box jump vids give hope that he can improve his straight line speed. There is athleticism there. Loose in the hips on the turn for a 6'1 kid as well.
At worst will be a solid special teams performer and we need those types.

In comparison to the NFL combine for DB’s it’s not. Richard Sherman ran a 4.56 and he’s considering slow.
Sherman had long speed and ran a 14.13-110m hurdles --high school national elite standard 14.70. He was also a 50'8' triple jumper HS national elite standard 45' and a 23'3' long jumper HS national elite standard 22'.
No comparison is athletic ability and Sherman did this participating in track only in his senior year.

That hurdle time and those jumps equate to a guy having at least 11.0--100 meter speed. Hodges ran in track this as someone posted earlier his official 100m this year in track was 11.99 that is almost 12 seconds.

Man that Sherman was an explosive guy!
Gurvan Hall at the U now was an excellent high school track guy with an official 14.38 in the 100m hurdles and a long jump of 21'10" and Sherman dusted those marks

Hodges not even in it with those guys.

Gurvan who is still learning his trade smokes Hodges and he does not have to worry about a lack of short or long speed. Flexible hips, etc. are fine but ballerinas and yoga masters have that but they cannot run.

Perhaps I don't have your trained I, but I don't like the fact that he put his hands on the guy to keep him from running by him. He will be a PI machine against blazing WRs
I agree he will have a role on the team. Good special teams guy as he gains muscle and fills out and in certain types of defenses. Longs arms count and help but receivers are taught how to block or evade those moves. He cannot be left along on a island as he would be toast.

Keondra Smith as a Junior had a laser 4.55--40 and a 35.7 inch vertical jump and measured out at 5-11 and 195 pounds and he is designated to play safety.
He also ran about 11.3 in the 100 meters on the track team in a limited amount of meets..

Who was kid 2-3 years from a school in the South Dade County area that was about 6-1 or 6-1 and weighed about 175-180 that was being looked at as a possible safety and maybe a LB but he never signed here-lack of speed. He ran a 40 in the upper 4.7s or low 4.8s I recall. I believe someone mentioned he was related to Ray Lewis.

Was it Rashard Smith who went to FAU?

You may be talking about Diamante Howard who was related to Sean Taylor.

Happy for Hodges, but for such a skinny kid you’d hope for a 4.5 guy at least. 4.9 is a real concern no matter how much people like him personally. You’re not going to get in that upper echelon of college football signing painfully slow CBs and WRs.

Thank you! It was Howard.
Never gained the bulk to get even close to being a LB prospect as he was less that 180 pounds coming out of HS. That said was considered by some a possible safety prospect but said he was said he was too.
He was considered inadequate in speed to play safety here. But he ran a 4.79--40 officially and had a very good vertical almost 36 inches and a decent short shuttle 4.36.

If this guy allegedly did not have the speed for safety a 4.79 how is Hodges going to play a CB at almost 4.9? There are time when one has to turn and run with a WR you cannot always use arm length and first step quickness.
