Do you realize how good our run defense has been? This isn’t a good take.
Do you realize that in most games lost, our defense got gashed for big runs to the side where the "striker" was in key moments in games to seal victories or big plays. Did you realize how finley limped to the finish line his senior because he's basically a linebacker. Our run defense was solid, but I can careless about stats when it comes to being fundamentally sound, the stats will take care of itself.

Having a "striker" out their, is not a fundamentally sound defense, it becomes a guessing game, and far to often this year we guessed wrong!

So u would also say we should never use a traditional nickel? Because that's the substitute for that package with the striker. Teams are gonna try to run at u when u take a LB off the field, its mostly for coverage needs against the TE and such.

You know and I know the nickel is used in what's considered "obvious passing" situations, what we normally did in times past was just put our biggest safety recruits and move them down to linebacker anyway, so most of our linebackers we're just as athletic or more athletic than the tightends they covered. This is not rocket science, it's still 11 on 11, the problem is, we primarily like to play man on the weak-side but zone up on the strong side, all those 3 wide stack sets are not complicated at all, to many times we are just lined up wrong, which causes to much confusion post snap.

We giving to many receivers free releases on those type formations, instead of defensively attacking that offensive formation, we playing it to soft. This is why it's going to be real interesting to see where james williams lines up, if he's stays as athletic as he is now, we don't need a striker, most of frierson standout plays besides that beautiful anticipation pick against Louisiana Tech, have been in the backfield, just like a linebacker.

Wow! What a moving, heartfelt story on Chase Smith. Will be pulling for the young man to reach his goals!
