My 11 year old son went to the QB retreat this weekend and we had a great time. We got to see a bunch of the top flight talent and there was no shortage of ballers this weekend.

A few little nuggets that I saw.

1. Bryce Young - All that is advertised and more. Not only top talent but he is truly one of the nicest guys around and did so much with the kids. The event had 60 QBs I believe from Youth, Middle, and High and he walked over to every single player to individually speak to them. Not only that he played a ton of ball with the youth kids today and they loved him. I'm 5'9/5'10 depending on whose measuring and he's no more than 5'10 if that. Not big by any stretch but what an athlete. His backup at Bama is another great kid - Jalen Milroe. BIG BIG dude. Built like a ripped LB and a cannon for an arm. Flicks it 50 yards at ease. The kid Texas just got Maalik Murphy has the strongest arm of anyone there and everyone knew it too. He can throw it around 80 yards or more. The longest throw outside of him was low 70's and most guys were in the 60's who play college. Very few HS kids hit that number or spun it tight at 60 yards, although the OSU guy Dylan Raiola did.

2. Jaden Rashada - amazing kid. Could not have been nicer and more gracious with the kids. He's all that is advertised. Funny thing is they did the long ball today and he'd didn't throw that - they wanted him for his group in the accuracy section. Top notch arm though, he can spin it. He's slight build though - needs 25 - 30 pounds on him, but tall 6'3 / 6'4. I told him we hope he comes to Miami and my take is he loved it, but someone else is calling - didn't get the vibe. Who knows. My son also said he wants him at Miami too!

3. I really liked the Clemson QB - Christopher Vizzina - kid throws a beautiful pass and just overall solid. By far best overall for the 2023 guys I saw.

4. OSU got a LB at QB for 2024 - Dylan Raiola throws a laser and he's a big dude. Was very good and a lot of the guys liked him a lot.

5. I wish I knew who everyone was or had names on the back - but there were some amazing WR's. Tons of college guys as well. Brandon Inniss is a dog, not at all the fastest but built thick and solid. A lot of other guys and I wish I could figure out who they were because there for 4 or 5 guys that were 6'3 / 6'4 that looked like Andre Johnson and flew around. I couldn't figure out who Hykeem was. One of the kids is transferring to Bosco out here next year and was a Sophomore. This kid was a monster at WR - I hope we get on him!

6. Lane Kiffin was there hanging in a cabana for a good part of it. Matt Leinart there too. There were a lot of coaches and scouts, but I couldn't tell who anyone them were. Although there was a guy today wearing a Hurricane shirt and I went up to him and said great shirt and he mentioned he had 2 players at the U - Jake and Jaleel. Not sure what that meant but he was rocking a UM shirt. Outside of my son wearing a UM hat and bag that was the only other UM gear there!

7. Michael Pratt from Tulane who is from Deerfield Beach and Boca - not the biggest guy but throws a beautiful pass.

8. Lastly, my favorite player and a guy I will root hard for is Ryan Hilinski. Best coach with kids, biggest heart out there, and just a true gem of a guy. He transferred to Northwestern from South Carolina and was a top 10 QB a few years ago. He's getting his MBA there as well. Most fathers who had been there years before, that Ryan is the best around. He engages with the kids on Instagram and watches their film and sends comments.

I didn’t mean to bold! Sorry about that.

My son is getting better and good for his age! It's a lot of work to get where these guys are at but if you practice and stick with it it's a cheat code for college as I think about. I have to say though most of these kids are just great kids. Very respectful, kind and especially the older ones, they treat the young kids so nicely.

If Texas gets Manning as many think they will, I wouldn’t mind Miami trying to scoop up Murphy if he hits the portal.

I didn't mind before I heard he can sling it 80 yards, now I welcome it. I knew the kid can spin it, but to hear he had no competition in a field that included dudes like Rashada and Bryce Fuccin' Young is a whole other can of worms...

I’m assuming Dylan Raiola is the son of long time Lions Center Dominic Raiola? Just checked some highlights and wow.
Yes that’s Dom’s son & he has amazingly gifted natural arm talent.

He’s an ELITE ELITE pure passer, incredible arm strength & throws off platform better than most do on platform.

He’s been compared to Pat Mahomes, I don’t like making lofty comps like that, especially for HS Soph/Juniors, but I can kinda see it with his improvisational style & the way he generates an insane amount of torque from his upper body while throwing on the run.

Dylan Raiola is special.

I think the part in bold was just hard to understand what you were conveying - like were you saying that Rashada just did not seem interested in Miami???

For comparison and conversation . . . Jeff George back in the day could do it all, except win consistently when the games started. He was on some ****** teams! 80 yards while impressive is a single metric point.

Of course. I was only speaking in reference to that impressive single metric point in a vacuum, not as the end-all be-all. I'm pretty sure Chad Pennington has won more games than Jeff George. Certain he's won more playoff games...

Jeff George famously said as a pro when asked about his leadership role on a team, "leadership is overrated".
