Yes it's a thing...but also the gear has chemical in it that also has cancer causing elements. This why you should only wear your gear for fire fighting only and not to work out in.

It’s a huge problem. Post retirement lifespan is now like 18 minutes.

If you took a deep breath at a typical structure fire 50 years ago, you’d get a lung full of smoke from mostly wood and other common combustibles. Today, you’re inhaling hot gaseous plastics and other synthetics. A lung full of cyanide ain’t the way.

Also, that **** attaches itself to the gear, and loves to seep in over time… that’s a problem because we’re a bunch of homos who think we look cool in soot covered gear. The posts above are also accurate.

UM has been doing a lot of good **** for the profession the last few years.
