Chickillo is a beast

LSU defense is not big as in weight/size wise but those boys are ripped which make them seem bigger.

The issue for Chick is having Shayon on the other side. Chick is not a speed rusher but that doesn't mean he can't be very effective when at least one other lineman is collapsing the pocket. If the rumors about a one gap and 3-4 are true look for him to have a good year and be exactly what we need.

you guys remember Greg Mark..similar in size to chick??
he was a DE that struggled...then two all American DTs Kennedy and Maryland had to be dbl teamed, when they were Greg had 16 sacks in 89....as soon as we can start pressure up the middle our ends will dominate....

BTW...greg Mark was fired by Coker..he was a Top notch recruiter and coached our DLine from 1993-2004..

players he recruited and coached..

Prominent Players Coached
Vince Wilfork (Miami) - ****
William Joseph (Miami) - New York Giants
Jerome McDougle (Miami) - Philadelphia Eagles
Andrew Williams (Miami) - San Francisco 49ers
Jamaal Green (Miami) - Philadelphia Eagles
Matt Walters(Miami) - New York Jets
Kenard Lang (Miami) - Washington Redskins
Kenny Holmes (Miami) - New York Giants
Warren Sapp (Miami) - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Michael Boireau (Miami) - Minnesota Vikings
Damione Lewis (Miami) - St. Louis Rams

This off season program has these boys right. I met Chickillo today, and I have got to love the size of are D-line this year. I am a big guy but next to Chick I felt like a fly weight. You can really tell they have been putting in work with the s & c program, these guys are built like tanks.

Chickillo looks solid but if you saw most of these SEC DL you would think twice about this. Those guys at UGA, UF, LSU, Bama have to be roiding. My cousin worked for LSU and everyone on the team had multiple supplements in their lockers..

It took 2 posts for the SEC suck out to begin.

Great post, isn't Mark coaching in the NFL now though? In any defensive scheme you need to have certain linemen force the offensive line to use 3 guys to block 2. This enables the outside guys the chance to just go one on one on the edge and if good enough win the majority of the time. Now when Porter returned we saw that and the improvement in Pierre. It's why all this talk of 3-4 I don't get. I expect we shall have a DE have a big year this year, as long as POrter stays healthy, God help me that is a big if. Don't think it's Chick though, he will be that end that is strong against the run first type DE

Also those uniforms make them look big, u ever seen P Peterson with the gold under armour uniform.....dude looks jacked. Some reason Wilfork looks small on the Patriots compared to UM where he lookes like a giant. Those 01 uniforms made u look huge and the bra straps we have now make everyone look tiny on tv.

He sounds great. Why was he fired? And, where did he coach after Miami? It seems like a lot of teams would want him on the staff.

Greg Mark resigned when his wife passed away. He decided to take over her wifes business and raise his children. At least that is how I remember it.

Never or Bama wouldn't have enough players for a team.

How often do players get tested for PED's? Do you feel some schools are chosen more than others?

Chicks mass isn't the issue, it's his burst off the line and speed. He didn't carry his weight too well last year. Hopefully it's different this year.

This, love the kids drive, but he has to show he can play with more explosiveness.

I'm not an S&C coach, nor am I in anyway a professional in the field of training athletes, but my best guess is that a lot of Chickillo's explosiveness issues are the result of our inability to redshirt him his freshman year due to depth concerns. We had to bulk him up, and his offseason Strength and Hypertrophy routines were extended longer than they otherwise would have been, and cut time away from his Power training, which is where all that strength and speed is turned into explosiveness. So my guess is, now that he is of proper size and there is no need to sacrifice one routine for the other, he will be back to the explosiveness we saw from him his freshman year.

It was a calculated risk that Golden, Swasey, and Chick took last year that backfired for his sophomore season. On the other hand, he is perfectly ready for his junior year.

Keep in mind, this is just my best guess. But it makes sense, and will be partially validated if he comes back strong this season.

Its like wearing a black shirt makes i look small and white makes u look big. U would be surprised by how much uniform designs make a player look it terms of size when u watch on tv.

People overrate the size of LSUs defense. Their DL, especially DEs, aren't huge and neither are their LBs.

They're just extremely talented.

they might have the smallest in sec at times...those dudes just fly up field...and lbs can run sideline to sideline...quite frankly their always comparable to our defense and old defensive schemes.

BAMA is loaded with big guys, UGA, even UF.
