Beating Miami this year isn't exactly a major feat. My take on Strong is I don't know if he is a great coach or not and his track record at Louisville speaks to that. Some very nice wins and some head scratching losses. I don't see how anyone can proclaim him as great yet. Not saying that he won't be but I think it is up in the air.

And yes, before anyone responds with anything about Golden, I am aware of his deficiencies.

I was not a student at UM so I have no firsthand knowledge. I just know what I read here, and perhaps in the media. I think Randy tried to enforce his rules. He used to spy on kids in class to make sure they were there. He had other conduct rules. He wanted kids to learn how to speak properly.

I am not a Randy hater. I hate the hate directed towards Randy. He was number 22 for us, came up the hard way. I was sad when it didn't work out for him. I just don't know that there is anything special about Strong's code of conduct. When Randy came in conservative columnist George Will did a column on Randy's own code of conduct and what Randy had to overcome to reach his position.

If Charlie Strong could do the same thing at UM that he did at Louisville....well, that's an open question. He lucked out by getting a difference-making QB that most teams get very rarely. He did it probably without the same kind of academic admissions barriers that confront Golden at every turn.

So, it's easy to say, just do it now, don't talk about it...he doesn't have to navigate the same admissions minefield that Golden does. I remember he coached the Gators in a bowl game against UM when the head coach left or was fired (Zook?) and there was nothing special about his defense back then.

At Texas he'll have the biggest talent state plus unlimited resources, and I don't know how tough the admissions standards are. It's supposed to be a very good school but that doesn't mean they have tough admissions standards for athletes.

It seems a lot of his success at UL was due to having a dirty recruiter on his staff, a guy that helped get us in NCAA trouble. Where is Hurtt by the way? Did he follow Strong to Texas?

I don't feel sorry for Randall Shannon, he was paid very well for his incompetence and how he left this once great program. The admin should have never hired him to begin with.

which staff? bridgewater was already wavering while shannon was coach and the firing cemented it. he flirted with lsu and then picked louisville. golden didn't have a chance.
