Today's Sentinel had an article on how Larranga who had never used a zone defense switched after a few games from
man to man to a zone. He felt his players fit better in this defense and the team has played much better. The Post
had an article how Muschamp was switching from his run oriented pro set at Florida to an up tempo spread run by
his new offensive coordinator from Duke. Why won't and Golden switch to a modern day attacking defense with man
coverage? It would attract better defensive recruits.

I don't think the coaches are going to change just because others are. They are trying to run a defense that they think works better with the guys that they have. But don't get me wrong I want a change in the defense but I think they are stuck figuring out what will work with our group of guys.

Al would switch to ***-less chaps for gameday before he'd change his bend but break defense .

Completely false. That is why a majority of golden sunshine pumpers keep stating wait till he has his recruits here...

It's taken them four years to figure that out? The D is worst in the ACC but they still insist on doing the same thing. The definition of insanity...

While I agree that Golden and Co. need to make better in-game/in-season adjustments, I believe it's apples-to-oranges comparing adjusting man-zone in basketball and football.

The point the poster is trying to make has nothing to do with anything X's and O's, it's all about being able to identify weaknesses on your roster and adjusting accordingly...something Al has shown that he is too stubborn to do.

I understand, and I agree with the stubbornness argument - I just believe it's far easier for a basketball coach to switch defensive philosophies mid-season than it is for a football coach. Not as cut-and-dried as that article is making it, that's all.

You can't overhaul your defensive phlilosophy that you need a MINIMUM of 22 guys to "master"... on a whim.. you can get 6-8 dudes to play zone in basketball without too much.

Golden and Co are taking the saban approach.. this is my defense, we're going to get guys that fit the system, and when we do, we'll be good.. Short term, that's not great, long term it's much better..

oh and that would go against everything al believes in.. he's teaching you how to do things the right way to succeed in his system.. that would all go down the tubes if he's teaching a system to keep up with the (lack of) talent we've had.

Ahhh, I see, and I actually do agree with that. The problem is that we have had multiple seasons of repeated defensive failure and Corch Gorlden hasn't shown any willingness to adapt his scheme in any way.

The first time I recall being very disturbed about AG's defense was the KSU game at home a couple seasons ago. That was the first time I can remember seeing 4 WR sets with LB's covering two slot receivers. And we still see the same things now, perhaps even more as a matter of fact.

is it possible, that maybe, our defensive talent just isn't up to par?

Bull****.

FSU made the switch from the 3-4 midseason. They even changed Christian Jones position after the season had started.

It can be done. Our guys are either too stubborn or too stupid to do it.

Making the change when something is ineffective, thats what good coaches do. Unfortunately our Football program is lacking in that department

Coach L is a seasoned, old vet coach, in a sport that is significantly less complex than football. Golden can't change the system bc he doesn't know anything else. In football it's not as simple as "we'll just play man coverage".

You cant fit a round peg into a square hole, but Dumbofrio keeps trying.

His system is like going to battle on horses to fight against tanks, it does not work.
