CFP Round 1: Notre Dame vs Indiana - 8 PM, ABC

I won't knock IU for losing to ND or their schedule. Coaches and players don't control that. You play and win the games on your schedule, you can't control what other teams do/don't do. Shoutout to Curt Cignetti, who took a team that went 3-9 last year and were picked to finished next to last in the B10, to 11 wins in his first year, the most they've ever won in over 100 years of Indiana football. Meanwhile, Mario needs 5-6 years to "get his guys in" and "change the culture" according to some on this board

This CFplayoff is WIDDDEEE open…There are no teams that are led by a really good QB outside of Gabriel and Jennings. I think SMU can beat PSU based off of KJ’s ability, but he’s still a pup though. Man, I wish we could’ve gotten in. Cam would’ve had a field day against some of these teams.

ND is who they are. They will struggle against UGA and UGA will struggle against them with horrible QB play. This is why UGA is vastly overrated. They are living off of reputation as we did when Kirk kept picking us to win the NC for about 4 years straight.

Honestly, with McDonough talking trash now, the talking heads are the reason everyone craps on anybody not the SEC or Big 10. They talk down on Miami as if we didn’t dominate UF at the swamp. That team is 8-5 now. Yeah, our defense was very suspect, but we lost to two teams that were 16-8 by 9 points. The other team took UGA to 8OT’s and was a missed absolute targeting from walking out with a W in a game they controlled and dominated. UGA gets credit for hanging in there and “toughing it out.” We get, “Man, Miami should’ve lost! They’re not playing anybody.” See how that works?

Miami’s a feel good story until it’s not, then the past continues to come back up and we’re hated again. Cam 4th in the Heisman??? Be for real. Iv’e been a fan since I was 9 years old and I’m 44, so I’ve seen this song and dance before.

Today’s game is a QB’s game and unfortunately, we won’t see the best QB’s play in the CFP. Siggghhh…Back to football the way Nick Saban likes it…

One win against a team that didn’t have a losing record and that team was 7-5.

Indiana is the fakest playoff team in college football history.

We can thank giant mega conferences for this. A team from the Big10 somehow manages to play an entire 12 game schedule with only two opponents that weren’t below .500.

With all these teams in a conference it’s now possible for teams to skate through the whole regular season without playing any of the other top teams in their own conference. Texas did it. They played Georgia (and lost) and nobody else good in the SEC. Indiana played Ohio State (and got destroyed) and nobody else good in the Big10. I don’t want to hear anymore bull**** about ACC schedules being weak.

We lost the last 2 out of 3 games, we can't complain. However, I am not going to give Cingetti any shoutout. He was a trash coach last night. Punting the ball around midfield when his team badly needed points

Penn State QB not bad either and they got a huge advantage tonight with the weather. SMU hasn't played in any cold weather games this year, so tonight will be their first. I'm rooting for SMU but that cold weather

This thread isn’t for debating our playoff chances. That being said Cignetti is a fraud.

USC went 7.2 yards per play for 557 yards. Turned it over on downs at ND 29. Pick 6 from ND 21 and pick 6 from ND 13. That’s shredding a defense.

Louisville went over 5 yards per play and turned it over 4 times at midfield. They outplayed ND and controlled that game with their offense.
Can’t just write off pick 6s as a novelty or fluke. It’s a credit to the defense. Imagine if we had a few pick 6s. Point is, ND has one of the better college defenses and has multiple NFL draft picks.

McDonough is a Syracuse alum who's in bed with Jim Phillips.

He was going on and on last week that even if SMU lost the ACC championship game, the Mustangs deserved to be in the CFP. He just didn't mention Alabama and Ole Miss by name because he works at ESPN and has to deal with Sankey.

McDonough and Mandel — and a lot of other folks — are dead-set against conference realignment, which is certainly their right no matter its inevitability.

I happen to think this realignment reset we're seeing in real time is actually a good thing and (more importantly) getting to either the SEC or B1G is Miami's only chance to return to the top of College Football.

There's a reason we've got one Top 10 finish in 21 seasons in our JV conference. Folks in charge have come to accept mediocrity as long as we're not that bad.

That notre lame ugay game will be so dam boring. Horrible qb play on both sides. I think lame squeaks it out cause their qb play will be slightly less terrible

We should have had a pick 6 against Syracuse and probably would have won the game.

Don’t think McDonough is necessarily impacted by Syracuse or BC ties. He’s a crotchety contrarian and one of the few ESPN analyst unafraid to speak his mind. The rest are pretty boys or J-school trained seals unlikely to express a potentially controversial opinion, though questioning Indiana isn’t going too far out on a limb, either.
