CB Dean coming to UM with sense of urgency

Getting Dean and Delaney was so huge for this defense.

Add in the development of Malek Young and JJ at safety.

We got a pretty solid secondary to go along with an elite Front 7.

Not to mention they really believe Trajan Bandy will come in and play nickel right away. They'll blitz him a ton I'm sure.

I can see Bandy walking right in and taking minutes. He's a smart instinctive player with no fear. The stage won't be too big for Bandy.

This defense is going to be so fun to watch this year. Our Front 7 could probably make Michael Jackson, Henley, and Ryan Mayes look good. I just hope they get more interceptions than last year.

I started watching Malik Young film from last year, as I mentioned I would do in another thread. So far only watched the Pitt game.

One of the things I noticed was that Malik spent most of his time at field corner, although he did play boundary and even nickel on a snap or two. (I will save my full review and thoughts for after I've watched all the film)

Does anyone know where Dean played or projects?

Total speculation, but I'd see him as a backup to Malek playing Field Corner and mostly utilize him inside. I really love the idea of using his stickiness on inside guys and motion players. Especially those guys who try to get over the top or run post-corners. Much more to be said, but I'll leave it there for now. Diaz has the ability to have a ****LOAD of fun this year.

Agreed.

Bandy would be playing a lot next year had we not brought immediate help. I still think he plays a ton and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he played more than Dean when all is said and done.

Amazing what can happen when you have a little faith in a competent staff, isn't it? Hope everyone already clutching their pearls about DT for the 2018 season is paying attention.

I only know basic, general stuff about field vs. boundary, like boundary having less support against the run and less help over the top from the safety. I don't know much about Manny's scheme and how that translates to CB, except more basic stuff like them often being on an island due to the aggressive front 7. But I am trying to apply our roster and talent to see what we are dealing with.

You said Malik at Field with Dean backing him up. So can I conclude that means you believe Dee will be our boundary CB? I suppose that makes sense, being that he had a 4th round grade - we are assuming he won't need as much help over the top?

The more I look at our personnel, the more I think Quan has a huge season. Maybe it will translate to stats and maybe not, but it looks like we should be able to line him up all over the place to make plays - outside, slot, safety blitzes, etc. I know we saw lots of this last year, but we also utilized Corn to blitz and whatnot. Colbert and Redwine were big and strong at CB too. This year our CBs are smaller, so I would think that would Quan in more of a roving, playmaker position.
