What do you guys think about that targeting call? I personally cannot stand targeting calls. If the offensive player lowers his head AND there is no intent, it is completely unfair.
Except that kid clearly hit helmet to helmet and Carter led with the shoulderSame play that happened to Kosi last week and they picked up the flag
We got a break considering it wasn’t a personal foul and just a 12th man on. Didn’t amount to a whole lot in regards to down and distance but apparently he did a good job pleading his case in the limited time he had but you’re not going to convince me he wasn’t lingering for hype’s sake.Tough to tell from my vantage point, but did Carter get flagged the very next play for not leaving the field?
He got tossed. It was a personal foul that was assessed as half the distance to the goal. The 12 man on the field call afterwards was a joke and they called the false start as a make up right afterwards. We got a break considering it wasn’t a personal foul and just a 12th man on. As for the targeting aspect of it; I can’t stand the rule especially considering the inconsistency with which it’s called but per the description it was justifiable.
OT: I almost lost my **** last week when they called targeting on the UCF safety for a shoulder to shoulder to hit on the Cincy Tight End that was clear as day in real time (called it from jump). Don’t remember which who it was, might have been a Killian kid(?) but was so relieved when they reviewed and determined otherwise. Following the hit the receiver just sat there looking for a flag knowing **** well he just got popped cleanly with no helmet contact and didn’t hang on to the ball. Speaks to the coaching in the current era.
I apologize for the rant but appreciate the platform.
My statement was in reference to the 12th man on, the refs could have been turds and called an additional personal foul for unsportsmanlike. They did not. Despite little difference between an unsportsmanlike and 12th man on in regards to down and distance in that scenario, I was pleased he did not get the unsportsmanlike, I figure he knew he was ejected (he’s gotten tossed for targeting before) and hung around for hype’s sake.He got tossed. Agreed on Carter. That’s the most aggressive that we have seen him play all year. I believe that he has to sit out the first half of GT, but whatever was said to him in the prep week made a difference. He was all over the field until that call.My statement was in reference to the 12th man on, the refs could have been turds and called an additional personal foul for unsportsmanlike. They did not. Further, the refs didn’t make up for anything with the false start call, there was a false start; Virginia earned that one on their own. So hey, maybe the lingering worked as a mental jab. Don’t know. We won, I hope Carter earns another captainship by continuing to get it done in practice while we prep for next week.
Bull**** callWhat do you guys think about that targeting call? I personally cannot stand targeting calls. If the offensive player lowers his head AND there is no intent, it is completely unfair.
This is what I would be teaching my safeties on these kinds of plays. Go for the Thigh pad, take a knee or two with you. Not our problem after that.Maybe Carter should attack the wideout knee instead
take out a couple of Acl/mcl/pcl
The only reason I sleep at night is that I see these bogus targeting calls all over the country. Texas lost their best defensive player on a guy who hit the receiver late on a light hit directly to the shoulder pad. Receiver wasn't even phased. One of the weakest targeting calls ever. This is happening to everyone so college football in general is suffering, not just Miami. One of my friends who is an FSU fan living in Georgia texted me @ the game and said it should have been targeting on the wide receiver.
After I saw the jumbotron review, i came to absolutely agree with him.
The receiver:
Launched himself
Used his helmet as a weapon
and,
Hit Carter on the side of Carter's helmet.
Are players on the offense exempt?
I think that’s Carter 2nd targeting call after 3 he has to sit out a whole game!Agreed on Carter. That’s the most aggressive that we have seen him play all year. Misunderstood you about the personal foul.
