Carson Beck commits to Miami

So much negative marketing coming out of the SEC it's crazy. He had a couple of rough games where it was clear he wasn't as good as his #1 overall draft pick hype. But the guy threw for 3500 yards with a 65% completion rate on a team that led the nation in drops. And he did that against: Clemson, KY, Bama, Auburn, MissSU, UTX, UFag, Ole Miss, UTN, and Georgia Tech. Beck actually had under 300 yards vs Tenn Tech and UMass so it's not like he padded his stats.

We were so spoiled due to Cam. I see no scenario barring injury where we're not a Top 10 offense in PPG again, assuming we get that WR1 out of the portal we're looking for. If we shore up a couple more spots on defense in the portal, too, and our defense actually shows a pulse, we'll have the same record or better.

This. I’m still skeptical of Arch Manning. He played great in limited action. But Quinn Ewers wasn’t some kind of generational player. Was Sark just that stubborn that he refused to sit Ewers? I don’t know. If he had a Cam Ward type of player sitting his bench, why was he playing Ewers?
Been saying since he was in HS after watching him play his best attribute is his legs and not his passing skills. He might prove me wrong but Sark didn’t put him in to complete passes time to time in games he put him in to run.

It will be interesting to see how he fares having to throw 35-40 times a game against SEC DBs ..

I know we are told that we will chase a proven WR in spring, but obvious no guarantees there on who will jump, and if we can land them. I would think we would have a promising opportunity.

I would feel much better if we already had a proven #1 type WR to pair with Daniels for Beck to operate with. We know if Beck has a running game, elite OL, and weapons to throw to he can be elite.

Lot of talent hit that winter portal, and we whiffed on em:

Eric Singleton
Deshaun Stribling
Eric Rivers
Zachariah Branch
KC Conception
Noah Thomas
Malachi Fields
Squirrel White
Duce Robinson
Isaiah Horton

I mean, somebody posted a list of all the better options than Carson Beck, with the caveat he recovers from his surgery.

I don’t think Mendoza was better.

I don’t think Mateer was available. He was Oklahoma-bound once he jumped in the portal to follow his quarterback coach to Norman. And as much as I like this film highlights, I did notice a lot of of his big players were against Portland State other weak teams.

Beck had some rough moments last season, but he didn’t have the supporting cast of the prior back-to-back national championships.

There’s not gonna be a game too big for him at Miami.

He’s not Cam Ward and we’ll have to go over that real quick. As others have posted with a better defense and perhaps more balance on offense, meaning not relying on Ward to be Superman, next season should be a good one.

Tough to land one of them without a QB. I think with Beck and $750k or more we can lure a top guy in (or back in) to portal

He valued Quinn’s experience more than Arch’s potential.

If you don’t think this is just about the absolute optimal outcome for the 2025 season, you are braindead. Simple as that.

And for the record, I’m not saying he’ll be Cam, I’m not saying the offense will be as good, I’m not saying the team will be as good or better. Those are all still TBD. But from where the season ended, to now, this is about as good as we could have possibly done.

Now go win.
