He is that low because they know he is leaning to UM and not one the schools that has a large subscription base.

Disappointed there is only one DT, Daylon Mack, on the list we're recruting. Not that I care about ranklngs, but he happens to have the highest ranking. Hard to believe that throught all of SoFl there are no DT's good enough to be recruited by Miami or on the top 300. Maybe selective breeding would solve the problem. "Hey Big Girls, Why Don't you Back it Up".

I know there a lot of them (big girls, that is) in south Florida.

We had our chance at local DT's that were rated high: *****, Bostwick, Moten, Clark, etc and we have landed Valentine (thank God).

It is what it is, but normally South Florida doesn't produce elite DT's. These last two classes are pretty rare and it kills me we haven't been able to get it while the getting is good.

Oh well.

looking at rankings some the top draft picks they wasn't highly rated so the jury is still out on those guys

Unlike RB or WR, DT is a very tough position to predict success based on stars. It's a position that comes down, quite a bit of the time, to will and heart, and those two things are never a factor in the star ranking system.

For instance, look at a **** like ***** Bryant. He has all the tangibles that reflect his 4 star rating, but I can almost guarantee he won't live up to that star ranking because he's a ****. Compare him to a supposed 2-star slug like Olson Pierre. OP is a bad ***, who worked his tail off and is hungry. He's going to have a big year for us and be drafted high because of his heart and will.

Tough tough position to evaluate and extrapolate with big 17 year old HS kids because you never know if they're just big fat kids who are stronger than their HS opponents and rely on that to make some plays, or if they have the heart to make the transition to make plays against big real men at the college level.

This. I can almost guarantee the bust rate on 4 and 5 star DTs is higher than almost any other position. This seems to be a position that the high ranking goes to these big boys' heads and they lose focus and effort. Also the dominant kids in high school with the high rankings sometimes don't need to learn technique, and they never had to struggle because they just destroy ppl physically. I don't mind the staff having to project talent at the DT spot...you get these kids that have been disrespected by the star system and they come in with a chip on their shoulder.

Agreed, especially when you consider so much of being a successful DT comes down to technique and will, and it seems like there's a a ****load of guys that are too lazy to pick up the subtleties of the game.
