CanesCamp Report Day 1

Nice to see Kaaya out there dropping dimes. Not concerned with the pick, true fresh=some growing pains but the arm talent is not questionable.

why are you guys ignoring the pick 6? if you're going to blame heaps for that bad throw (it was) then you've got to be fair with kaaya too

Because Kaaya represents an asset with future benefit....Heaps is a one year (or maybe even a 3-4 game) bridge.

If the competition is ANYWHERE close...you have to go with the kid and start grooming him. Either way, no matter who starts between Kaaya or Heaps they will probably be holding Ryan Williams' place til he's ready to go.

So my point is, if they both make equal amount of mistakes, but one has a potentially brighter future...you go with the kid and live with the growing pains.

It's Golden's 4th year here...he's got nobody to blame but himself for the where the current QB situation is at, I'm simply trying to make the best of it.

That looked to be Duke out wide on that first pick six as well. I actually give Grace a lot of credit on that pic more than the qb. Grace made a great read on that ball. It will be interesting to see this qb battle moving forward. I think its going to be a 2 horse battle, between Kaaya and Heaps. I am actually thinking Kaaya has a legit shot at this thing...

I don't like seeing the coaches throw Olsen out to the wolves like they did, then having him run with the walk on in group work says a LOT to me. Olsen was shook having to deal with all the questions about his antics and I think the coaches did nothing to protect him on that one, and if they are at that point already with him than it says a lot.

All in all, good stuff.
I'll take a large glass of that cool-aid thank you!

There is no excuse for failing a drug test, especially for the then-presumptive starting QB.

Plus, this was not his first *****-up. In his short time here (and before counting the car accident) he's earned a reputation for poor decision making.

And how did the coaches throw him to the wolves?

Yep. I say go with Kaaya and prepare for the future. If it's close go with Kaaya. Felt that way about Olsen but since he's a knucklehead then I say give kaaya the go ahead if heaps isn't head and shoulders above him.

I just felt like they knew he would get hammered with a bunch of questions about the suspension, and they said, "hey kid your up to answer to the media." Like I said he was like a deer in headlights, it was very uncomfortable and the staff knew it would be and they sent him out there on the very first day. They could have waited but they chose not to. I just feel like they are giving him the sink or swim treatment, and they could have protected him a bit. Not that he doesn't deserve it. Please do not mix it up. He has earned this backlash, I just am surprised they just threw him out there day one..... To me taht says something about where they are at with him....

Kaaya throw was impressive and looked like a freshman on the pick six by his reaction alone (confused). If Kaaya continues to get first team reps (Thanks, Kevin) then do not be surprised to see him lead us out of the tunnel in Louisville with the start

Let that be a lesson to the young man.

At this point, he's 20 years old and he needs to start acting like it.

There's no more room for coddling. If he was grown enough to make that decision, then he can be grown enough to face the music.

If the QB race is close start the senior. IF Kaaya starts lighting it up and does that in the scrimmages as well go with Kaaya to lead us to multiple 10 win seasons and then in 2017 we win the National Title with RS Freshman Jack Allison and JR RBs Dexter Williams, Jordan Scarlett, Cronkrite and SO RB Walton!

Accountability, he has to face the music for his actions. If he plans on making the NFL there is no where to hide and will be forced to answer questions regarding his choices both on and off the field.

This. Even if you expect Kaaya to move into the starting spot as a Frosh, I would start Heaps if it was close. Let Kaaya get his feet wet first, get him into a few games to get his sea legs under him, before you throw him right into the fire. Being close in "practice" or "camp" is not the same as being on the road, in front of 75K screaming fans, an opposing defense looking to take your head off. That is a recipe for disaster with a true Frosh making his first start. Things start going wrong, how's he going to react? Better to ease him into it. Not make him feel like the whole team is on his shoulders right away.

I would start Heaps, then work Kaaya into the games, see how he does, and slowly fade Heaps out, and let Kaaya take full control when he proves he is comfortable and ready.
