Canes lead for blue-chip Cali DE

......wants to come to Miami says the kid with a UCLA jersey on. He's trolling. Not sold. If you want to go to a school 100% and you have an offer you want, you commit in case a spot doesn't open up later. Then enjoy the recruiting process. If you are only 99.9% sold on Miami, then you wait and commit when you are 100%.

And he said Richt lost a few games last year and if he had someone like him, they would have won. Ha. UGA lost a few close games and won a few barely because their OC called horrible plays, Nick Chubb was injured, they couldn't score and their QB's were just plain horrible.

I'm guessing you didn't even read the article

I'm from Sacramento. My best friends brother in law coaches at a local high school. Kid trolling but excited. Says we have great facilities but has never visited. Yeah, ok. I give you Tyler Byrd.

There is something called the internet.

he wasnt talking about UGA when he said that he was talking about us.

Since it looks like you didn't read the article, I will quote it for you: "You look at the current staff and you have Coach Kuligowski, where he’s had two of his linemen win SEC Defensive Player of the Year. That’s a great coach. Coach Richt is a great coach himself and they lost a few close games last year where I feel like if they had somebody like myself that they would have won 10 or 11,” explained Johnson.

One of Miami’s biggest issues over the past ten years has been finding and developing dominant defensive linemen. That downward trend appears to be over under the direction of Mark Richt and more importantly, defensive line coach Craig Kuligowski who is one of the most respected in the business.

Meet Deonte "D.J." Johnson, a 6-5, 240-pound defensive end out of Sacramento, California. Johnson is a 4-star recruit with offers from Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina amongst others.

“I definitely have Miami at the top,” said Johnson. “To be honest with you, I would have already committed to Miami, but my dad has never experienced the recruiting
process so I want to make sure I take advantage of it and get that bonding experience with him where we get to see a bunch of different places and get treated like royalty.

After the season is over and I’ve taken all my visits, more than likely that is where I will commit.”

Johnson says his family has no issue with him packing his bags and making the cross-country move.

“Distance is not a problem for them because Miami is only an airplane flight away. They’ll be able to see me on TV anyways so it’s not a big deal,” he said.
The Hurricanes have been a favorite of Johnson’s for a while.

“That was always one of my favorite teams with the history they have. A lot of my favorite players like Sean Taylor, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Warren Sapp, and a bunch of other guys who were ballers. Their history is rich,” he said.

Not only does Johnson have an appreciation for Miami’s past, but he also recognizes that the revamped staff could be beneficial to his future.

“You look at the current staff and you have Coach Kuligowski, where he’s had two of his linemen win SEC Defensive Player of the Year. That’s a great coach. Coach Richt is a great coach himself and they lost a few close games last year where I feel like if they had somebody like myself that they would have won 10 or 11,” explained Johnson.

Johnson went a bit more in-depth as to why the Hurricanes are currently his leader.

“They’re Adidas and that’s the brand I like to wear. All the shoes I got are Adidas. They’re playing that attacking defense too which is what I like. I like to get up the field and go crazy a little bit,” Johnson said. “The facilities are great of course and the uniforms are great. They have a great sport administration program too, which is what I will study. It’s a great school.”

Not only is Miami’s coaching staff putting in work with Johnson, but also a few guys on the current roster, as well as a few others. Johnson said that he has been in contact with Brendan Loftus, Michael Pinckney, Waynmon Steed, CJ Henderson, and DeeJay Dallas.

The pass-rushing specialist has taken this spring to work on his weaknesses, knowing that things won’t come as simply at the next level.

“I’ve been focusing on making my pass rush even better. I kind of got away with some stuff last year because I’m big and fast, so I’m trying to get more technical with my hands and hips because it’s not as easy when you get to college.”

Why in the world is Brendan Loftus talking to this kid, he's a bum last time I checked.

I don't want our bench-riders like Loftus talking to our elite prospects. I DON'T LIKE IT!!!!!

Lol really... You gotta chill. It says something when the kids that aren't even playing are saying great things about that program... So only starters can talk to recruits lol

Except of course Georgia won 10 games last year and only had one close loss. So you're reading this as him saying he could have helped Georgia reach the exact win total they did reach, and would have been the difference in a few of their blowout losses??? Whereas Miami won 8 games, and had 3 games that really could have gone either way.
The most obvious, common sense way to read it is, in an interview talking about what he likes about Miami, he is talking about what he likes about Miami. They have a great DL coach, AND they have a great head coach, AND they lost a few close games last year so they aren't that far away and I could be the difference maker to a program like that.

This'll shut up the adidas haters...

No it won't. Lol.

Interesting ...

I thought you told me Adidas only matters in Europe and for futbol players???

Lol (you knew it was coming)

Lol.
You know that there's one odd ball in every state, right? Lol.

But, seriously...here's my concern about that kid's statement; I don't want any kid interest to be in us b/c of what gear we wear. I want them to say coaching, history, family atmosphere...etc. The gear comment has me on pause on the seriousness about this kid's passion to be a Cane.

I'll be patient...see how it plays out. Dad wanting to be treated like royalty or whatever caused a smart eyebrow to raise, perhaps it's nothing. Johnson is at least talking a good game. It would help our class if he would go ahead and commit. No one serious about recruiting him would pull his offer.

Na, he's had serious interest Since we've offered him....it's actually not uncommon that the parent wants to be loved and shown that they're wanted. They are sending their kid there

can he play DT?

Why? We need DEs more than we need DTs. Look at the depth chart.

You don't recruit for next season, you recruit for 2-3 down the road. We need DTs badly after missing last year to prepare for life after the current SO/JR are gone.

Agree,if all this talk about us signing only one DT in this class is true it would mean only Ford and Martin in back to back classes and that will come back to bite us in the *** in a couple years when the current guys leave. Will likely mean needing 1 or 2 JC DTs ready to come in and play.

I'm not new to this Zbrod95. Lots of youngsters, even highly sought after youngsters, claim we're their dream school or the school they've loved a long time. Were the young man committed to UM, again he would still be able to take visits, schools would still most certainly roll out the red carpet for him, and his father would definitely get his share of free steak and lobster - nothing wrong with that in and of itself. I'm interested in what helps our program and promises from stud athletes mean little without commitment. Do like Shaq or Jack Allison or Mike Pinckney and don't just talk about it, be about it. Go ahead and commit. Otherwise, it's just talk. His commitment would really help the 2017 recruiting class of the team he claims to love so much. As I said, I'm not new to this so I'm saving my thunderous applause at least until he commits to our program. And, I hope that he does.

I don't disagree that we need DTs. It's just that (looking at the depth chart), we need DEs more.

I'm all for taking 2 DTs and 2 DEs in the '17 class. But if we only take 3 DL, 2 DEs and 1 DT makes sense.
