35 3 point shots made in 37 games? As a starting guard he would need to make at least twice as many, and ideally 2.5-3 per game. I agree with you that his make percentage would indicate a better shooter than I give him credit for, but the overall numbers don't look to me like a guy on the verge of starting. They look like the stats of the first guard off the bench, spot starter, and a guy who may close some games sending on the matchup.Ehhh… he shot 39.5% from three last year and 39.8% from three this year. His form isn’t stellar but he’s got a decently quick release and he makes them at a statistically impressive rate.

He will start. I think he’s better as a 3 than a 4 but who’s going to start at 4 over him? He’s shooting 39.7% from three for his career on 126 total attempts… I think that’s enough of a body of work to fairly say he can shoot.
I think he’s a facilitate first kind of guy… and I think he picks his spots nicely (as reflected in his **** good 3P%).
He’s also an elite defender and a reliable ball handler who looks to create for his teammates.
I think his big weakness is penetrating and finishing… but I think he tries really hard to play within himself and not waste possessions.
I’m not saying he should start… but I do think he is a starting caliber player with a good chance to continue to develop into a real impact player.
I believe they are discussing Joseph and you Cleveland. He will start. I think he’s better as a 3 than a 4 but who’s going to start at 4 over him?
He’s not a very good athlete. Moves pretty slow laterally and doesn’t have much elevation. That’s why so many of his drive attempts get swatted away.I'm all over the place with Bensley. One game, I love his play, the next, not so much. All about consistency with him. If he's gonna start, we'd need to see much more of Bensley at his consistent best
His defense and effort are great, goes without saying. And, I like his jump shot.
He's listed at 6'2 207. So ... not a short or frail player. Why he isn't more effective on attempted drives to the hoop is a bit of a mystery to me. Too many TOs when he tries to kick it back out, or he eats leather more than a guy his size should trying to lay it up.
I think you're right. Guess I was equating athleticism and good defense more than is sometimes the case. He’s not a very good athlete. Moves pretty slow laterally and doesn’t have much elevation. That’s why so many of his drive attempts get swatted away.

He does get burned off the bounce at times, especially against really quick guards. But he often can make up for it with his leverage and active hands. He doesn’t have elite hops for sure… but maybe I need to go back and watch tape because I’m thinking you can’t possibly play defense the way he does without elite athleticism, lateral quickness and ability to recover.
Edit: typically a guy without plus athleticism simply can’t play that style of defense because they’ll just get burned off the bounce too much.
He still needs to work on his form. That looks too much like a W
