Camp Report: Duke and new uniforms talk

I think Duke could possibly transform todays NFL. Because he will be just the right size to do all those things, pass pro, crazy quick in the open field, explosive in the run game.... He would kill it in SF... Or a team trying to run some read option, spread stuff, because not many guys can tackle him in the open field. However, in todays NFL with the way the passing game goes they might even use him on KO as well.... Which will only make him more valuable.... He will be like Harvin but in the backfield more than Harvin.
From your lips to Jeebus' ears. As a Niners fan, I think he'd be pretty ridiculous running behind that OL and as a combined threat with Kaepernick. Also would be nice to see Duke succeed Gore as the Niners' starting RB.

Probably won't happen unless the Niners tank this season or trade up into the first half of the first round. I think with either 1 or 2 more really good seasons at Miami that Duke will go Top 10, at least.

alright, who's a math guy in here?

48 combinations. if we have 3 helmets (classic white, smoke, alternate), it means we have 16 matchups between pants and tops if they're distributed evenly (16x3=48).

16 matchups would mean four different bottoms and four different tops, presumably four different colors for each.

Four colors would mean white, orange, smoke, and green. sound right?

3 (helmets) x 4 (bottoms) x 4 (tops) = 48 possible combinations. Add black (black top only with black bottom, and black helmet as the sole combo) = 49. Mix and match black and it's 4 x 5 x 5 = 100 possible combos, which approaches Oregon parameters.

Surely that's just lip service though.

I doubt you can mix and match the smoke uniform (if it looks anything like the one from last year) with the orange and the green. It wouldn't look too good.

The smoke uniform as an alternate road uniform would be fine. White helmet and new white pants. If we have a green helmet + green pants would work too.

Right, on the one hand it's just math, and on the other the combinations have to look good - all of them. Oregon has some combos that are so out there that they merely look loud, ostentatious, and if they weren't winning llike they've been they'd recede back into asterisk status rather than the way cool factor they've become and copied. When we were smashing teams our unis were copied too.

And...don't call me shirley.

Disagree, here is why:

- Duke isn't going in the first round. I love Duke, and think he is a rare talent, but RB's are no longer a priority in the NFL, and with Duke's size, he will not be seen as an everydown back, thus not worthy of a first round selection (although he does have first round talent).

- Also, Duke isn't staying past this year. A RB's shelf life is minimal, and Duke has to cash in while he can. No way he stays for his senior season. Nor would it be smart for him to.

All valid points--but if he shows out these next 1 or 2 seasons (as I pointed out...he could be gone after this year as you said), and is considered one of if not THE top RB in the country...then he could certainly go high in the draft...especially if he puts to bed the durability concerns with a strong/healthy season.

I do agree that RB's have a lower value and that he may not get picked super-high, but as we've all seen (Vikings/Ponder, Heyward-Bey/Raiders, etc), all it takes is one team to fall in love and spend that 1st Rounder on him. Now, the debate over whether or not that's a good use of that 1st Rounder as far as value/longevity goes is a whole 'nother conversation.

Olsen is gonna be doing that thing this year where in spaces you will think we can win the National Championship because of him...and other times, it's going to feel like we can lose to any team in the country.

dukes 40 will say a lot about where he will go in the draft.

If he runs a 4.47-4.55 he will go second round.. Running backs don't need great 40 yard dashes.. Check the 10 and 20 yard splits.

I was referring to him being a first rounder. if he doesn't run a good time he will still be in the NFL just wont be highly drafted

RB's aren't getting drafted as high as they used to be. There have been like 5 RB's drafted in the 1st round in the last 3 drafts (this is based off memory and not research so could be wrong haha). His stats this year will be ridiculous if he has a full recovery and plays a full season.

The dude has ridiculous vision. Speed kills but anticipation and vision go a lot further. I don't think there's a back in the college game right now that has better vision than him. He'll be one the first RB's taken, even if he runs an average 40.

This.

I've said it ever since we got Duke as a recruit: he has the anticipation/vision of Ladainian Tomlinson. It's elite, and it makes for a really great RB. It's worth a first rounder, IMO...but we'll see.

Agreed. If he doesn't go first round it's cuz there are any backs taken in the first a la Gio last year.

He turns no gain blocking to 4 or 5 yard gains like no one I've seen in quite some time. Ridiculous vision and anticipation as you said. Very Marshall Faulk like.

smoke - full smoke that gray uniform that I associate with VT loss
Juice - full orange
storm trooper - all white

the fourth one maybe green.

If so, I'm calling it "money" until someone here gives me something better.

Wasn't Duke on pace for over 1300 yards last year? It's amazing that some think he didn't have quite the year he did as a freshman. I think around the country his return isn't being talked about enought...

And if he runs 4.4 flat?
He's running 4.4 on the cow pasture that is Greentree.

One thing we all tend to forget is that Duke is a high character guy.
He's a yes sir, no sir kind of person.

With all the divas in the NFL, GM's are going to fall in love with Duke as a person.

Nowadays more than ever, character, both good and bad, are serious factors when it comes to drafting players.

Duke seems to be the anti Chris Johnson.
