Cam Ward to Portal

Clearly it was never officially done but some of the insiders who posted that it was are almost always careful and spot on when they post stuff.
It is pretty clear that the STAFF felt they were in a good spot with the PLAYER ... that he almost committed on the visit. But ... the visit excitement wore off as they evaluated the draft ... and it looks like somebody gave them reason he will be more than a round 4 pick. "Insiders" can only advise what they're hearing.

USC would be stupid to waste money on a 1 year QB after what Moss just showed.

They better put some $ into that defense and give that kid a shot
Agreed. Its quite possible they could be going all out for Ward, but it seems like an odd move by their NIL groups. They couldnt even get themselves organized to haul in a good recruiting class or to shore up an atrociously bad defense, but then work out a deal to bring in a top QB when that is lower on their list of needs? Our dysfunction is we cant get a top QB, theirs is they do everything to get one but ignore their actual weaknesses?

I don’t know if it wasn’t communicated to the staff by Ward that he is joining the team or not.

So, if it is communicated that he is coming then there is a lot of bad info out there.

If it was communicated by Ward to the staff he is not joining the team, depending on the timeline of that communication, then WTF is this staff doing by not moving on to option #2?

Regardless, I said when it happened, this staff is making a big mistake not going all in on Howard the moment wars decided to take the FSU visit.

I am of the opinion that Ward only considered Miami because of the money and that he was hoping FSU got close on the money but they couldn’t.

You may know more than me and I may be way off on my assessment.
Dude you realize it’s the dead period right? There is very minimal communication allowed, and players certainly can’t take visits. It was was pretty obvious that if they didn’t get Ward by the 2nd, they were going to officially move on and get other guys on campus. People on here just assume Mario is sitting around doing nothing lol

So besides Howard who the staff tried to get a commitment from and he never did who are you all crying about missing out on due to waiting on Ward? There are literally 4 good QB's in the portal rn.

Ward(Staff is trying)
Howard(Staff tried)
Dillon Gabriel (Oregon back-channeled)
Riley Leonard (ND back-channeled)

Who from the QB's commited other than those 2 options (other 2 were backchanneled and don't count) did we miss out on by waiting?

I agree but it's one thing to advise that the kid loved the visit almost committed or that they feel confident but it was stated that Miami got their QB. Big difference.

Regardless I still appreciate the insiders on this board and what they bring to the board. Without them this place wouldn't be anywhere near as good

So what!! It doesn’t mean you can’t communicate with someone electronically. You can tell someone via the phone or text you are or aren’t committing.

Howard visited prior to Ward. The only one that hasn’t visited because of the dead period is KJ.

But you assume they aren’t lol. That’s my point. There isn’t a single person in the media that knows what Mario is up too

It's not about missing out, I have no doubt they tried their a$$es off to get any/all of them. Who knows they may still land one of them. My feelings about the current state of program aren't driven by the current Qb situation. It's a feeling I've had a for a LONG time.

This situation is just a manifestation of what happens when you make a REALLY bad decision that changes the trajectory of a program. It's what happens when you allow a former public accountant who doesn't know **** about football to somehow be entrusted with the job search for the face of your program.

You guys are focusing on symptoms. The disease is the underlying incompetence of thinking a guy like Mario is the right guy for the job just because he's a "Miami guy". The fundamental error was thinking that a guy who's #1 skill set is recruiting would find long term success in a CFB landscape that is even more driven by the HERE AND NOW than ever before is just mind boggling to me. Recruiting doesn't matter if you don't win because it all just becomes temporary free agency.

A coach that wins on gameday has a cascading impact throughout your entire organization. From talent acquisition down to position coach hirings. The University of Miami is plagued by the disease of incompetence that fails to understand how the landscape works.

There are a plenty of Qbs in the portal. More will enter as we get closer to January 2nd. call down
Yes, other QBs can and likely will jump in the portal but that wasn’t the plan. Obviously you have no choice but to pivot from that plan but let’s not pretend that the staff doesn’t have egg on their face.

@SaiyaMan305 - my understanding is they would’ve gotten a commitment from Howard when he made his visit here with his mom even after Ward visited the next day but staff had basically a day to decide: Accept Howard commitment or sit on waiting on Cam. They decided to wait.

This is undoubtedly true.

They now need to go back to the drawing board and have other QBs visiting or back-channel the ones they like. IMHO it’s for this reason that Mike Ryan is talking about prolonging the process.

I never assume that Mario is up to no good. His track record recruiting wise says otherwise.

Regarding QB recruiting, however, his track record sucks.

I guess we will find out soon enough if he has struck out again or he made things happen.
