Cam McCormick, TE, Oregon

Most of the portal kids were JAGs last year. I'm just going by the track record. As for the rest of your comment go circle jerk with the rest of the Mario slurpers. I like Mario but I'm not a d1k puller like most of you.

I'll take a blocking TE on some plays so TVD has enough time to use his arm talent.

If up to me, I'd find the best receiver from the non-starter offensive lineman and have them play TE in likely running downs... and save the limited (85 total) scholarship for another position

If they have the athleticism, I don't hate that, but they've got to have some wiggle or there's no reason to do it.

The tackle eligible plays work so often because teams "think they know" its a run. An extra offensive lineman in the TE position does the same thing.

Exactly this board acts like we need to find a 1st rounder at every position in the **** portal.

We need fillers to compete against the younger players not the next Jeremy Shockey… IT AINT HAPPENING JACK !!!

Look, with all due respect...

WR is the #1 position at which we DO need to try to find a great player to elevate the room.

Doesn't have to be a "1st rounder" in a literal sense (Rambo), but it **** well needs to be someone with the productivity level to merit being VIEWED AS the top guy in the room.

Colbie...was a JuCo...and he performed when given the shot. But we need a "regulator" to come into the WR room, who both draws attention from the rest of the WRs...AND draws attention from the #1 CB on the other team each game.

We don't need a ton of these guys. I pointed out that in 1986 (my freshman year), Irvin-Perriman-Blades caught ALL BUT 3 PASSES that went to the wide receivers (yes, we had TEs and RBs back in the olden days too). So I'm one of those classic-style guys who doesn't think that we need double-digit catches for 8 or 10 WRs to "have a good WR room".

It's just the truth. Do you want to hear more true statements? Most of the factual statements will be "negative" bc the amount of bullsh11t that has gone on at Miami. Do you want to know another fact Mario is arguably the best high school recruiter in the country.

We should have been able to land a higher caliber of TE than an 8th year senior who’s likely only getting a look here due to his familiarity with our head coach.

It’s not that big of a deal to add Van Wilder at TE, though, compared to our ongoing issues at other premium positions.
Respectfully, you have no clue what you’re talking about. He was 14th best blocking te.

Best,
Da Truth

With the way out WR room is looking, I can see our offense being TE heavy this year because we have no choice. Arroyo, Skinner, and Williams may be our top threats in the passing game.

Slot will be as well as Walton. Don’t discount Kahil

While playing the third most snaps among Oregon TEs in his first full year without injury since 2017. He played a very limited part-time role last year, caught a grand total of 18 passes in 4 years, missed 3 full seasons in college due to injury, and tore his ACL during his senior year of high school.

Like I said, it’s not a big deal at all compared to the other glaring issues surrounding this program but we should have been able to land a higher caliber of player at TE without such an injury riddled track record. That’s not controversial to say.

His perseverance is admirable and I wish him well wherever he ends up. If it’s here, hopefully he stays healthy and fills a niche.

They obviously have a type they’re looking for, their first choice was the Memphis kid who we couldn’t get admitted, and this is a backup plan. Most good teams have a tight end whose main job is to block, even it isn’t glorious. Whether or not there are better tight ends available isn’t really the question, it’s whether there are better tight ends to do this specific role that we can actually get in the door.

It’s also because of schematic system. Not because of lack of depth. Which is concerning.

He played 366 snaps in 2022. We are stacked at receiving tight ends. This makes sense and he’s not a jag is what I’m saying. Having a grown man his size blocking with his mobility is a pro anyway you slice it.

Some of yall have no idea how to build a team. Just the concept of this player type is getting dragged.

Do yall realize like 1/3 of our roster (or more, tbh) were unplayable P5 players last season. Even the ones you liked as high school commitments. It happens. It's fine. But just remember how bad this team was when we got down to that level in our roster...so bad.

You got to raise the floor with a roster with guys that can give you reps and give your roster versatility. Idk if this guy is HIM or not...he seems good for what the projected role for him will be. Just not enough upside like that Memphis TE that went to Ole Miss...which is fine for a last hurrah player.

No offense to the TEs because they were recruited to play off the line in a previous regime...Will Mallory can't block...he wasn't recruited here to block. It was brutal at times, but that was never his game and no one asked him to until Mario got here.
Neither are any of the TEs on the roster outside of Mammerelli. Brantley has k9 DNA so he's a willing and has been an effective blocker...but he's not an in-line guy.

There is a roster spot available for an in-line guy.

It’s certainly reasonable to say he’s not a JAG even if I don’t agree. I’m heavily factoring in his alarming injury history when I stated we should be able to land a better option.

Your number does support what I said, though, about how he played a very limited part-time role. 366 snaps in 2022 equates to 38.9% of Oregon’s snaps (940 snaps in 13 games). Quite honestly, their staff likely factored in his injury proneness and questioned whether his body could have handled any more than that.

He’s a specialist who could conceivably fill a blocking role, but he comes with an extremely checkered medical history that would make anyone wonder how long it will take until he’s unfortunately sidelined again. I don’t think that’s an unreasonable position here.

This guy fills a niche as a blocking TE and he’s probably a locker room glue guy. Looking at his stats, it seems like he shouldn’t be a take but he must have some great intangibles. If he can set an example and be a Jimmy Murphy that’s fine with me.
