In the gameday thread is seemed like you saw something different about our defense this game. Can you enlighten us?

I didn't see anything different. Terrible gap responsibility. Uncreative blitzes. Soft coverage. Inability to stop the run. Lack of pressure on the QB.

not LUCANE

but after we(da Canes) was burn by Pitt's rb for 45yrd. td
we change our alignment
when PITT went to 3 wideout

Why do it take 3 F'ing weeks,
to stop placing TA over slot wr
and place 7 man in the box instead of 6 is beyond me..

The process called for those changes to be made in the second quarter of game 12. You don't let results get in the way of process, EVER!

How easily the RB got to the edge made me want to cry.

It happened in slow motion too - it's not like the kid is a burner.

Go watch Pitt's first TD and look at our pre-snap alignment.

Pitt had a TE and 2 WR's on the same side. We had nobody over the TE to set the edge. We chose to walk out our OLB over the slot WR instead. SMH

Red carpet to the outside.

but after looking at the long TD AGAIN
by Pitt.

TA give a **** poor attempt.
Gaines take a terrible angle.
Karl Roger just being K.Roger

mybe it is the players....
sorry I couldn't resist

Right.

There's nobody over the TE. The OLB is lined-up over the slot. THERE'S NOBODY TO SET THE EDGE.

You have to put your players in the best position to succeed. We didn't do that. Gaines and Armbrister can't make that play. Just off alignment alone that play is guaranteed to make it to the Safety's level.

You're asking your OLB to defeat a stalk block while he's lined-up 5 yards off the ball. You're asking your ILB to take on pulling linemen and set the edge.

The only defenders that even have a chance to stop that play are Armbrister and Gaines and they're both out of position pre-snap.

This play wasn't on the players. Yeah, there could have been better efforts by Armbrister and Gaines but even with that the play still gains 5 yards.

It kind of amazes me how at this point in the season, the staff still doesn't know what our guys can and can't do. If we had some guys like Spence at LB these coverages might almost make sense but we still expect Cornelius and Armbrister to make the same kinds of plays in space. It is really counter productive the way they are preaching "weight weight weight" and Size at LB and D-Line, only to try and put them in space and make Safety coverages and open field tackles. We haven't always been this slow on defense, even when we've been bad. Guys weigh a **** ton and we are sooooo slow closing on the ball.

I've seen on other teams that played us message boards how they just assumed we were really fast on defense before watching us, because historically we always have speed back there. But in the alignment we play we really haven't effectively deterred teams from running or passing at any point in the season. You can get around us and you can get through us.

I just don't get it. Can this alignment stop the said play? Sure, for a 5 yard gain. But why not line-up a way that will give your defense a chance to stop it cold?

Go Cover-3.
Set the OLB on the outside shoulder of the TE. (now you have an immediate edge setter)
Walk the Safety down over the slot.

Now you've got 7 or 8 in the box instead of 6, and you have somebody setting the edge. The pulling linemen can't just waltz around the edge and start teeing off on defenders.

Because that would be too aggressive and counter to our bend don't break model. smh

one other thing 90 Kamalu was on skate...
push 10 yards down field
Kamalu was suppose to set the edge :FAIL

All game long I have to fight getting on the message board. We just look slow. We don't fly to the edges...it's just amazes me. I don't know enough about scheme or alignment or talent evaluation, but it just seems we make every bad offense look all world. I mean after the VA game a D player was talking about how good they played, and my wife and I were just frustrated watching another offense going up and down the field. I don't want to be critical, but as a fan it's frustrating. I'm hoping we don't play a strong running team in the bowl game. Heck I'm not entirely sure we could get Georgia Southern off the field. I know we will get better, and I look forward to the turn around.

Early on in the game, I watched us bring in Mccord on a 1st down and slant. Like I said in the game thread, I'm really just looking for any indicators that the coaching staff is willing to experiment with alternatives that go against their tendencies. We all know they're aware of all their options. I've said dozens of times that I believe they're making a conscious decision with their style.

I repeatedly watch our guys get destroyed playing 2-gap, but I'm curious to see if they're any better when they're allowed to play a bit more aggressive. Maybe they'd look terrible. I don't know. My hope in watching games is to see things that may indicate future success. When I saw something that may mean they're willing to adjust. I excitedly mentioned it. That's all.
