Burgess Becker Announcement

4-star WR Calvin Ridley and his teammate, 4-star ATH Shawn Burgess-Becker will announce their verbal commitments this afternoon.
Chris and I are at North Miami Stadium for the Florida Fire tryouts. No time yet for when they plan to announce.
Ridley is wearing Miami shorts. FYI.

IF he commits elsewhere, or even worse to a rival school, I'm going to lose it. I normally don't get rustled by this stuff, short of Gibbons, but this would really **** me off.

Agreed I dont care about kids wearing any teams gear they want but to wear the hometown U shorts while you commit somewhere else is just flat out disrespectful.

Just finished watching Ridley's highlight tape again. I think DMoney or someone else made originally made the comparison, but I watch his tape and see Marqise Lee.

Yep, that was me.

When I saw Ridley live, he was every bit as good on defense as he was on offense. Monarch used him in the box and he was a missile. That's part of the reason why I made the Marqise Lee comparison. Some people still think Lee was better on defense.

Ridley is also a very passionate, competitive player, which also reminds me of Lee.

This dude's tape is DYNAMIC. He makes plays vertically, on intermediate routes and in the screen and short passing game. His YAC is ridiculous! He can high point the ball and can jump out of the gym. I like him better than any of the 3 we missed on this year (still wish we would have landed one, though) and I think the comparison to Lee is legit. Putting him with Coley if we land him

Competitiveness would be the tiebreaker for me on close evaluations. I just think the competitive kids who live and die with their team are the ones who will make the sacrifices necessary to win games in the 4th quarter.

SBB gets a lot of love, but Ridley is even a tick ahead for me. Ecstatic if we can get both on board and then have them shut it down and recruit for us over the next year.

That type of run-after-catch ability is sometimes what separates the very good from the elite. Not only does he possess explosive top-end speed to separate from pursuing defenders once he breaks into the open field, but he can also break tackles, make people miss in a phone booth, and isn't afraid to lower his shoulder and deliver punishment. The suddenness in and out of his breaks when he plants his foot in the dirt and changes direction is really impressive for a 6'2" receiver.

Combine that with the size, AA, body control, home run ability to blow the top off the coverage as a vertical threat, and his tendency to consistently pluck the ball with his arms extended away from his frame and you have a phenomenal, potential five-star talent.

Can't understate how enormous it would be for us to land both Ridley and SBB, who's obviously a difference maker in his own right as well.

The bad thing about this announcement is that although both are announcing today because they are tired of the process already, they still aren't done with the process completely so whether they choose The U or elsewhere these 2 have so much more time to deal with this. Now if they are shutting down their recruitment then that's a different story. Let's not get too worked up over this.

Rather us have them committed and fight to keep them than trying to flip them boys.

Esto.

I will be interested to hear their comments if they commit.

With two athletes of this stature, the best of the best are going to be after them, but I'll feel better with statements that signify a firm commitment as opposed to Tyrek Cole's "I'm committed to FSU, but still wide open."

That being said, my Jimmies need some positive news after the past month.
