Bryce Fitzgerald making big plays in his season opener

I know all the talk about him tackling has been a thing..but you can never turn down a game changing playmaker like this who can change momentum of a game with a single play. If we are depending on him to average 8-10 tackles a game as a safety then something went very wrong in the front line of our D anyway. Consider me sold on this kid.

And to think that an electrifying explosive athlete like this at a position of need(either Safety or CB) was barely spoken of on these boards in terms of someone who is a must get. I admit I am among those guilty. I think partly it's because of the way he was always presented as an athlete and never as an elite level Safety or CB. That mythical 11.5 100m has turned out to be complete and total bunkum with a fully automatic 4.48 40 much more accurate. This young man is snagging interceptions and taking them back 92 yards for scores a few minutes after taking the opening kickoff about 90 yards to the house(called back).

I'm talking about the first quarter of the first game of the year vs Southridge after picking off 10 passes last season and returning 2 for TDs. Slow kids don't do those things and they certainly don't do them consistently. Bryce Fitzgerald has proven he is an elite playmaker at Safety, CB, WR and at both KR and PR. He has also proven it on the hardwood. Fitzgerald is a big play machine! If speed kills and explosive electrifying and dramatic touchdowns on offense defense and special teams are like a dagger to the very heart of the opposition then Bryce Fitzgerald is the most prolific serial killer the South Florida gridiron has seen in quite a while.

Before Pickett verballed to LSU, I had Fitzgerald as a plus one regardless of Pickett. Some on here said no way, but those ball hawking skills are special.

And yes I know one is probably a CB and the other is probably a S. But they are hybrid types plus there are only so many DBs you can take in any class. This class just so happens to be too special to worry about the numbers with the top guys.

His speed is fine it’s his tackling that we hope to see improve and it’s been stated 70000 times on this board lol
As you said, his purported tackling issue has been stated, stated again then stated some more. Heck, I've stated it before so I didn't feel the need to squeeze the remaining 1.5 drops of juice out of that hackneyed premise.

I thought it was much more representative of the incredible revelation this young man has been to focus on his uncanny ability to produce explosive scoring plays in all three phases of the game. Adding Fitzgerald to the rooster is like someone adding a rocket launcher to their personal weapons cache'.

Very fair but I was talking in general not at you per say. I tagged your comment so my fault. I don’t know what position this kid is gonna play. But I like his ability to be a playmaker. If he doesn’t enjoy tackling seems like he would play corner and pray he can get low and grab a leg. But who knows. I wanna see him live. Because I’ve never seen a tackling highlight

It's all good bro!

That's a very reasonable take and I'm in general agreement. The thing that gets me is that I have this gut feeling that this whole tackling issue may be becoming a bit or more than a bit overblown. I'm not saying that it's not possible that we have a young Deion on our hands who quite literally has an aversion to tackling because he feels what he brings in other parts of the game more than makes up for that but I doubt that.( I'll note here for the reading impaired that I never compared them as players in the totality of their game. Just the tackling issue in order to make a point!)

Back to Bryce Fitzgerald. I would say that maybe it's a part of his game that he's never made an effort to emphasize. To me, he's just too much of a natural athlete for me to believe it's something he cannot do. Add that to the scholarship offer which Cristobal gave his blessing to which I would assume came with some very involved conversations. There is no chance that Mario/Lance weren't 100% blunt, real and honest with the young man about the need for him to ratchet up the physicality in order to play period. Even CB.

I think the kid will be just fine. Not saying he's going to be a physical beast like Sean Taylor or Antrell Rolle but.......I'll take a Philip Buchanan anyday😜.
